Wirt County Journal April 24, 2002 Obituaries Susan D. Anderson Susan D. Anderson, 55, of 14th Ave, Parkersburg, passed away Friday, April 19, 2002, at Camden-Clark Hospital in Parkersburg. She was born Dec. 16, 1946, at Industry, a daughter of the late Clenden and Helen Phillips of Davisville. She was a 1964 graduate of Wirt County High School and a Methodist by faith. She had been a resident of Eagle Pointe Nursing Facility since January 2001. She is survived by a brother and his wife, Gary and Kathy Phillips of Munday; a sister and her husband, Nanette and Joe Casto of Davisville; and uncle Ercel (Pete) Phillips of Elizabeth; two aunts, Carolyn Lofghen of Gransvount, N.Y., and Patricia Phillips of Great Falls, Va.; two nephews and two nieces. She was preceded in death by a son, Bryan C. Anderson, in 1994; three uncles; and four aunts. Services were held Sunday, April 21, at 2 p.m. at Busch Funeral Home in Elizabeth with the Rev. Box 43, Elizabeth, WV 26143. Janie G. Brannon Janie G. "Jerry" Brannon, 88, of Parkersburg, died April 18, 2002, in Camden-Clark Hospital in Parkersburg. She was born in Ritchie County, a daughter of the late George M. and Lulu Dulin Baker. Mrs. Brannon was a member of the First Lutheran Church and was a homemaker. She was a member of the Parkersburg Chapter 14 OES and Bethany Shrine 4, White Shrine of Jerusalem. She is survived by three sons, William M. Brannon of Parkersburg, Ronald L. Brannon and his wife, Karen of Florida and David R. Brannon and his wife, Jacqueline of Elizabeth; a former daughter-in-law, Pamela; and eight grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, William E. "Ernie" Brannon, in 1977 and two brothers, Emmet Baker and James T. Baker. Services were held Saturday, April 20, at 11 a.m. at Vaughan Funeral Home with the Rev. James F. Kinsler officiating. Interment followed at Mt. Olivet Cemetery. Jean Boice Given Jean Boice Given, 87, formerly of Elizabeth, passed away April 17, 2002, at Sunbridge Nursing Facility. She was born Dec. 2, 1914, in Wirt County, the daughter of the late John Boice and Hattie Proidence. She was a homemaker and Baptist by faith. Surviving are one daughter, Betty Good of Teays Valley; two grandsons, Russell Keith Good and Sherman Joseph Good; one great-grandson; four brothers-in-law, Robert Given of Cuyahoga Falls, O., Charles Given of Port Huron, Mich., Mac Given of Sebastopol, Calif., and William Given of Ocala, Fla.; and two sisters-in-law, Blanche Jarret of Alice, Texas, and Josephine Ennis of Sebastopol. She was preceded in death by her husband, Hubert Russel Given, in December 2001; two brothers; and three sisters. Services were April 20, at 1 p.m. at Lambert-Tatman Funeral Home with Pastor Bob Watkins officiating. Interment will follow at Evergreen South Cemetery. Martha Jean Joy Martha Jean Watson Joy, 58, of Elizabeth, died Dec. 18, 2002, at her residence. Jean is the daughter of the late Melvin and Zelma Goff Watson. She was a loving wife and mother and was a homemaker. She is survived by her husband, Roger L. Joy; one son, Donald L. Joy of Elizabeth; one daughter, Paula J. Joy of Elizabeth; two sisters, Lily Sheppard and her husband, Floyd of Newcomerstown, O., and Maxine Law and her husband, Roger of Port Washington, O.; three brothers, Robert and wife Arlene Watson of Newcomerstown, O., Paul and his wife, Marie Watson, of Canton, O., and Ronnie and wife Barb Watson of Newcomerstown. She was preceded in death by an infant brother. Services were held Saturday, April 20, at 11 a.m. at Matheny Pomroy Funeral Home with the Rev. Dean Ash officiating. Burial was in the Pine Twist Cemetery. Estel Conger Life Estel Conger Life, 102, of Parkersburg, died April 20, 2002, at Worthington Manor. She was born in Jackson County, a daughter of the late Edward Conger and Rosetta Utter Conger. Survivors include three sons, Virgil Life of Barberton, O., Earl Life of Newark and Burl Life of Lubeck; three daughters, Irene Hubacher of Ellenwood, Ga., Nellie Sims of Lakeside, Ariz., and Mary Wine of Melbourne, Fla.; two sisters, Alma Jones and Opal Anderson, both of Parkersburg; 24 grandchildren, three step-grandchildren, 60 great-grandchildren, three step-great-grandchildren, 36 great-great-grandchildren, three step-great-great-grandchldren, six step-great-great-great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, the Rev. Joseph Henery Life; two daughters, Viola Powell and Nora Atkinson Strawderman; four sons-in-law; four brothers, Dale, Cromer, Joseph and William Conger; two sisters, Nora Hart and Oda Uppole; three grandchildren; two great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild. Services were held Tuesday, April 23, at 1 p.m. at Leavitt Funeral Home with the Rev. Danny McVey officiating. Interment was in Evergreen South Cemetery. Ruth Mason Ruth Gay Turner Maston, 88, of Parkersburg passed away April 15, 2002, at Sunbridge Nursing Facility. She was born July 23, 1913, in Wirt County, the daughter of the late Gilead and Ida Bell Hall Lockhart. Ruth was a homemaker and was a member of the Camden Avenue Church of Christ. She is survived by one son, Darrell Turner of Washington; one daughter, Judy Trainum of Pocahontas, Tenn.; five grandchildren, Melvin Turner, Julie Hill, Carrie Ward, Tamela King and Susan Forman; and 12 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her first husband, Howard Turner, in 1967; her second husband, Earl Mason, in 1990; four brothers; and two sisters. Services were held Wednesday, April 17, at 1 p.m. at Lambert-Tatman Funeral Home with Brian Jones and Andy Robison officiating. Interment was in Evergreen South Cemetery. Mary McFarland Mary E. McFarland, 90, of Belpre, died April 20, 2002, at the home of her niece. She was born Aug. 31, 1911, in Wirt County, a daughter of the late Offa Bascom and Clara E. Wilcox Enoch. She was a member of South Parkersburg Baptist Church. She had worked at the Silk Mill, Union Insulating and Thorne's Supermarket, She had also been a member of the Order of Eastern Star. Survivors include three sisters, Pearl Flinn of Parkersburg, Armeda Moore of Parkersburg and Irene Keller of Belpre; and one brother, Preston Enoch of Belpre. She was preceded in death by her husband, Wilbur "Mac" McFarland, in 1988; and three brothers, Wilfred, Worthy and Wilbur Enoch. Services were held Tuesday, April 23, at 11 a.m. at Leavitt Funeral Home with Pastor Joe Busch and Pastor Bill Brown officiating. Burial was in Evergreen Cemetery North. Memorial donations can be made to South Parkersburg Baptist Church or Hospice of Marietta. Jackie Moneypenny Jackie D. Moneypenny, 68, of Wrightsboro Road, Grovetown, Ga., died April 19, 2002. He was a native of Cairo, having made Grovetown his home for the past 30 years. He was retired from the U.S. Army after 20 years of service. He was a Vietnam veteran where he received the Bronze Star and a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars. He was the retired owner of Moneypenny's Garage and husband of the late Mrs. Fannie B. Moneypenny. He is survived by four sons, Jeffrey Moneypenny Sr., Chandler, Ariz., David W. Moneypenny of Portland, Ore., Richard L. Moneypenny of Grovetown and James B. Moneypenny of Thomson; two daughters, Katherine D. Moneypenny of Thomaston, Ga., and Sherry M. Paquin of North Augusta; a brother, Billy Moneypenny of Carrolton, O.; two sisters, Veatrice Deem of Canton and Betty Lou Ellison of Elizabeth; eight grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren. Services were held Monday, April 22. at 11 a.m. at Stephen D. Posey Funeral Home. Interment was in Pineview Memorial Gardens. Otis E. Trader Otis E. Trader, 89, of Elizabeth, died April 20,2002. Surviving are one son, Harold; three daughters, Lucille Davis, Helen Griffieth and Nellie Gessner; one brother, Arthur Trader; one sister, Patricia Presley; 17 grandchildren and several great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren. Services were held Tuesday, April 23. at Matheny Pomroy Funeral Home Chapel. Burial was in Rockhold Cemetery in Wirt County. Miona G. Wilhelm Miona G. Wilhelm, 82, of Clegg Street, Parkersburg, departed this life April 18, 2002, at Camden-Clark Hospital in Parkersburg. She was born in Jackson County, a daughter of the late Harry Hudson Smith and Alma Stallings Smith Seals. She was a former employee of American Viscose. She was a member of the South Parkersburg United Methodist Church where she was active in the Hustlers Sunday School class and a member of the United Methodist Women. She loved her home and garden. She is survived by one son and daughter-in-law, Brent and Kay Wilhelm of Washington; one daughter and son-in-law, Barbara and Larry LeMasters of Parkersburg; two grand-sons, Michael Wilhelm of Morgantown and Kris Wilhelm of Washington, D.C.; three sisters, Mary Ellen Smith of Parkersburg, Ethel Smith Boyce and her husband, Truman of Elizabeth and Ila Shockey and her husband, Glen of Pettyville; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, Harold Wilhelm, who passed away in September 1985; and two sisters, Edith Rawson and Auleen Perdue Holleron. Services were held Saturday, April 20, at 11 a.m. at South Parkersburg United Methodist Church with Rev. Kermit Poling officiating. Burial followed at Sunset Memory Gardens.
