Somerville, good farmer and citizen of Somerville Fork, was a pleasant caller at the Journal Office on Thursday of last week while in town on business. Mr. and Mrs. James F. Charnack of Washington D.C. are visiting the latter's mother Mrs. T.A. Pomroy for a few days. Nathan Coberly, a former resident of Elizabeth, was a visitor here the latter part of last week. Amos McLain and Okey Caplinger, two of Tucker Creek's good citizens, were here on last Friday and were pleasant callers at the Journal Office while here. A.F. Fought, Newark's popular merchant, was a business visitor here the latter part of last week. Mrs. John Hays and Mrs. Lloyd Deweese, of Straight Creek, were visitors in Elizabeth on last Friday. Mrs. F.F. Daniell an son, Shirley, of left Reedy, were visitors in Elizabeth on last Saturday morning. Mrs. Ida Rockhold returned Sunday from Struthers, Ohio where she has been spending the winter with her daughters. C.E. Nutter, good farmer and citizen of Flint Run, was a business visitor here the latter part of last week. J.S. Courtney, mayor of Two Ripple, was a Parkersburg visitor on Sunday. Mr. and Mrs. Robert Clark, newlyweds of Cairo, are visiting the latter's parents, Mr. and Mrs. G.A. Wilson of Lock 5 this week. They will make their home at Salem, where Mr. Clark is employed after this week. Mrs. Ross Wilson, daughter Werneth, baby Duane and Miss Naan Riddle are visiting at the home of Mr. and Mrs. G.A. Wilson, of Ivan, the latter part of this week. E.J. Pepper, Mrs. Mattie Righter and Mrs. P.A. Pepper, of Burning Springs were visitors in Elizabeth on Saturday. C.E. Caltrider, of Brushy Fork, last week, purchased the Martha Wilson property back of Washington St. a house and about three acres of ground. Mr. and Mrs. J.L. Deever and Mrs. A. Pickering, good folks of Standing Stone, were visitors in Elizabeth on Saturday. April 26, 1962 Board OK's Largest Budget in History Wirt County Board of Education last week gave final approval to the 1962-63 budget, which is the largest in the history of the county at $316,004. This budget will go for administration, instructions, operation of plants, attendance service, maintance of plants, and for capital outlay. Miss Sharon Bumgarner was awarded the Legislative scholarship with Miss Susan Smith being named alternate. Band Concert Friday Night The annual Spring Concert of the superior Wirt High Band under the direction of Donald Markey, will be presented this Friday, April 27, at the gymnasium. Starting time is 8 p.m. Admission will be 75 cents per person. Those people who purchased band candy during the recent candy sale will be admitted at a reduced price when presenting their coupons.
