Wirt County Journal September 25, 2002 Obituary Brooks Layman Brooks Crawford "Buck" Layman, 93, of Parkersburg, died Sept. 16, 2002, at Camden-Clark Hospital in Parkersburg. He was born in Wirt County, a son of the late Fred Washburn Layman and Blanch Hawkins Layman. He was formerly employed at American Viscose and was self-employed in the timber industry for many years. He is survived by two sons, Brooks C. Layman Jr. and James E. Layman both of Parkersburg; three daughters, Dorothy Wells and Linda Nedeff, both of Parkersburg, and Geneva Schell of Teays Valley; two brothers, Walter Layman of Indiana and Jack Layman of Florida; one sister, Anna Maze of Parkersburg; 16 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Iris Shultz Layman; three brothers, Clarence, Fred and Granville Layman; one sister, Julia Vaughn; five daughters, Betty Memel, Carolyn Holliday, Margaret, Margie and Joann Layman; and two granddaughters. Services were held Wednesday, Sept. 18, at 11 a.m. at Leavitt Funeral Home with pastor Tim Waugh officiating. Interment was in Pleasant Hill Cemetery.
