Dotson, G.W. Clinton and others from here attended the Masonic School at Parkersburg a part of this week. The members of the local Odd Fellows Lodge are rearranging the lower story of their hall on Court Street. They are converting this story into modern parlors and dining hall. H.E. Pomroy, State Trooper, who has been located at Shinnston for several months arrived here Wednesday evening to spend a few days with his wife and other relatives here. C.C. Menefee, oil operator of Burning Springs was a pleasant caller at the Journal Office on Thursday of last week while in town on business. D.M. Roberts, good farmer and citizen of Hughes River, paid the Journal Office a pleasant call on Saturday while in town. C.E. Caltrider of Brushy Fork, was a visitor in town Tuesday. Sheriff Coplin has received the list of real estate returned delinquent for 1923. All that is not redeemed after this week will be published and sold unless those interested look after their property before sale. Draper Sheppard progressive farmer and stockman of Right Reedy was a business visitor here the first of this week. Mr. and Mrs. Everett Somerville and Mr. and Mrs. Andrick, of Somerville Fork, were visitors in Elizabeth on Wednesday. October 18, 1962 Mistook Gibson For Red Fox Lawrence (Monk) Gibson of Creston, son of Mr. and Mrs. E.E. Gibson, was injured in a hunting accident Monday, said Conservation Officer Ralph E. Smith. Russell Tucker, who resides on the West Fork told Sheriff Ira Lockhart he thought he saw a red fox and fired his shotgun, but Gibson, a number of yards away, caught the blast on his left side with pellets breaking the skin and entering his body on the leg, arm, side and face. He drove himself to the hospital and was treated by Dr. R.W. Coplin who reportedly "stopped counting" the pellets after he got to 45. He is suffering a lot of discomfort, but not believed to be in serious condition and was not sent to the hospital. Seaman Mike Taylor Spent Leave Here Seaman Michael Taylor of the U.S. Navy, son of Mrs. John Vincent, has been spending a 14-day leave with home folks since Oct. 3rd. With duty aboard the USS Compton, he had recently completed a cruise of a few months duration in the Mediterranean area and Mike said he enjoyed getting shore liberty at various points including Rome, Italy. He is reporting back for duty at Boston this week. Vacationing in Arizona Anyce Luella McFee, elder daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Warren McFee, is spending the two weeks of Oct. 8 - Oct. 19, vacationing in Phoenix, AZ, visiting her sister, Wanda. On their itinerary were planned trips to the Grand Canyon, the Painted Desert and Petrified Forest and much more of the beautiful surrounding scenery. Miss Ingram Is Improved Deputy Wirt County Clerk Miss Leila Ingram, a patient in Camden Clark Memorial Hospital since Oct. 2 when she suffered a fall and received a cracked pelvic bone, was reported improved Monday and had been up walking with assistance late last week. Doctors advised she should be able to leave the hospital by this coming weekend. Hubbard Completes Recruit Training Marine Private Lewis E. Hubbard, son of Mr. and Mrs. Homer L. Koon, of Elizabeth, completed recruit training Sept 27th at the Marine Corps Recruit Depot, Parris Island, SC. The indoctrination to Marine Corps life includes instruction of basic military law, discipline, physical conditioning and other military subjects. Three weeks are spent on the rifle range where recruits fire the M-14 rifle and receive instruction on other infantry weapons.
