Wirt County Journal October, 9, 2002 Obituaries Juanita Mae Smith Bryant Juanita Mae Smith Bryant, 43, of China Grove, N C., died Sept. 30, 2002, at her home due to declining health for several years. Mrs. Bryant was born Nov. 17, 1958, in Wood County, a daughter of Curtis and Fairlene Anderson Smith of Belleville. She worked at Belk's Inc., Charlotte, N.C., and was a member of Hickory Grove Baptist Church in Charlotte. She is survived by her husband, Joseph Bryant; two daughters, April Bryant and Shena Bryant; one son, Allen Bryant, all of China Grove; her parents; her grandmother, Beulah O'Brian of Spencer; two brothers, Virgil Smith of Williamstown and Roger Smith of Belleville; and two sisters, Teresa Stemper of Belpre and Diane Summerville of Elizabeth. Services were held Friday, Oct. 4, at 2 p.m. at Whitley's Funeral Home Chapel in Kannapolis, N.C., with the Rev. Frank Mersur officiating. Interment was in West Lawn Memorial Park, China Grove, N.C. Lucille Ledsome Lucille Ledsome, 64, of Rt. 1, Elizabeth, passed away Friday, Oct. 4, 2002, at St. Joseph's Hospital in Parkersburg following an extended illness. Mrs. Ledsome was born May 15, 1938, at Munday, a daughter of the late Lonnie (Boone) Kelley and Alice Deems Kelley Parsons Kastrow. She attended the Creston Church, was a homemaker and worked in elder care for many years. She enjoyed working with flowers, going to auctions and attending sings. She will be missed by one son, Austin Ledsome of Cairo; one daughter, Rita Hutson of Parkersburg; three brothers, Larry Parsons of Parkersburg, Lee Parsons of Elizabeth and Lester Parsons of Cairo; one sister, Bonnie Enoch of Elizabeth; a special companion, Raymond Daniels of Elizabeth; eight grandchildren; and two great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by one brother, Charles Kelley; one sister, Sarah Kelley; and her stepfather, Robert Kastrow. Services were held Tuesday, Oct. 8, at 1 p.m. at the Busch Funeral Home with pastor Robert H. Moody Jr. officiating. Burial followed in Wolverton Cemetery. Janet Sue Salyers Janet Sue Salyers, 64, of Parkersburg, died Sept. 30, 2002, at the Willows Nursing Home in Parkersburg. She was born Nov. 17, 1937, in Wood County, a daughter of the late William N. and Viola Reynolds Haines. She is survived by two daughters and one son-in-law, Pamela and Danny Little and Kathy Mason; and three grandchildren, Bobby Mason, Joey Mason and Danielle Little, all of Wirt County. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Donald R. Salyers; one son, Robert Salyers; and eight brothers and sisters. Services were held Friday, Oct. 4, at 11 a.m. at Fought Cemetery in Newark with the Rev. Dwight Goff officiating. Eugene Starcher Eugene Starcher, 89, of Poca, formerly of Arnoldsburg, died Thursday, Oct. 3, 2002, at Putnam General Hospital after suffering a stroke. He was born May 7, 1913, in Arnoldsburg, son of the late J.Y. and Myrtle Westfall Starcher. He lived most of his life in Arnoldsburg, until his retirement. He was involved in timbering, farming and was retired from the West Virginia Department of Highways. He is survived by one daughter and son-in-law, Sandra and Joe Lancaster of Grantsville; one son and daughter-in-law, Joe and Phyllis Starcher of Poca; one brother, Charles Knotts of Bickmore; four grandsons, Gregory S. his wife and Tracy Lancaster of Elizabeth, Kyle P. and his wife, Tracy Lancaster of Arnoldsburg, Kevin P. Lancaster of Grantsville and John Eugene and his wife, Pam Starcher of Woodlawn, Tenn.; one granddaughter Julie Christine of Poca; four grandsons, Kaden Scott and Jacob Lee of Elizabeth, Philip Joseph of Poca and Joshua Peyton of Woodlawn; one great-granddaughter, Addison Marie of Arnoldsburg; and numerous nieces and nephews. Aside from his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Ruth Sturm Starcher; one brother, Seldon Starcher; and two sisters, Fay Cox and Mattie Vineyard. Services were held Sunday, Oct. 6, at 3 p.m. at Stump Funeral Home in Arnoldsburg with Tim Davis officiating. Interment was in Stump Cemetery at Millstone.
