Wirt County Journal December 15, 1999 Obituaries Dorcas E. Casto Dorcas E. Casto, 66, of Pettyville, died Dec. 8 at St. Joseph's Hospital. She was born in Wirt County, a daughter of the late Robert "Roy" and Laura Morehead Lockhart. She was a homemaker, a member of the Pettyville United Methodist Church, where she played piano, was a member of the altar guild and worked with the church youth. She is survived by one son, James A. Casto of Pettyville; one daughter, Debra L. Farnsworth of Parkersburg; four grandchildren, Amy Beth and Adam Farnsworth of Parkersburg, Eric and Cassie Casto of Pettyville; one great-granddaughter, Natalie Casto of Pettyville; three brothers, the Rev. Donald Lockhart of Elkins, Melvin Lockhart of Parkersburg and Beryl Lockhart of Mineral Wells; and four sisters, Mildred Wood of Hoover, Ala., Irene and Ina Long of Akron, Ohio, and Orpha Strimer of Parkersburg. She was preceded in death by her husband, James W. "Bill" Casto; and two brothers, Leonard and Glen Lockhart. Services were held Dec. 11 at Pettyville United Methodist Church with the Rev. James Arbogast officiating. Burial was in Sunset Memory Gardens. Lambert-Tatman Funeral Home, south Parkersburg, was in charge of arrangements. Loise Spencer Daniell Lois Spencer Daniell, 92, of Unity Plaza, Parkersburg, formerly of Elizabeth, died Dec. 10 at Camden-Clark Memorial Hospital, Parkersburg She was born Dec. 9, 1907, at Newton, Roane County, a daughter of the late Wesley Franklin and Lillian Ellis Keen. She was a lifelong homemaker and a former employee of Dick's Market with more than 15 years of service. She was also a former employee of xxx Brothers and E.I. DuPont. She was a 34-year member and past matron of Chapter #113, Order of the Eastern Star, where she served as treasurer for more than 10 years. She was a member of White Shrine of Jerusalem, Bethany Shrine #4 of Parkersburg and the Elizabeth Homemakers Club. She was a longtime docent of the Beauchamp-Newman Museum, Elizabeth, and past regent of the Elizabeth Beauchamp Chapter, Daughters of American Pioneers. She was selected as the Wirt County Belle to the West Virginia Folk Festival and was a former member of American Legion Auxiliary, Post 55, of Elizabeth. After moving to Parkersburg, she attended Grace Gospel Church at Pettyville. She is survived by two sons, Duane Spencer of Elizabeth and Larry Spencer of San Jose, Calif.; one daughter, Carolee Daniell of Middlebourne; one stepson, Robert Daniell of Middlebourne; two stepdaughters, Roberta Taylor of Freemont, Ohio, and Sharon Gangloff of Belpre, Ohio; one brother, Cole Younger Keen of Mogadore, Ohio; one sister, Madge Keen Rutter of Parkersburg; 16 grandchildren; four stepgrandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; and four great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her first husband, Ezra Spencer, in 1953; her second husband, Robert Shirley Daniell, in 1997; two sons, Elden Spencer and James Spencer; one brother, Bryce Keen; and three sisters, Electa Keen, Mary Keen and Marge Keen Hutchinson. Funeral services were Dec. 14 at Busch Funeral Home, Elizabeth, with Evangelist Charlene Spaur officiating. Burial followed in Knights of Pythias Cemetery, Elizabeth. Dye Dwayne Allen Dye, 37, of Beverly Street, died Dec. 11 at St. Joseph's Hospital. He was born in Parkersburg, a son of Wanda Rose Dye of Newark and David Nolan Dye of Kentucky. He was a member of Cornerstone Gospel Church and Promise Keepers. He received a bachelor's degree of landscape architecture from WVU. He enjoyed drafting, golf, guitar, music, outdoors and most of all his children. He is survived by his wife, Angela Beth Cox Dye of Parkersburg; two sons, Seth Jacob Ray and Andrew David Kyle Dye, both of the home; two brothers, David W. Dye of Texas and Brian K. Dye of Washington; two sisters, Susan J. Haddox of Belleville and Cindy J. Richards-Trimmer of Parkersburg; and 12 nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by one sister, Debra Mae Dye; paternal grandparents, James and Mae Dye; and matemal grandparents, E.E. and Vernie Woodring. Services were held Dec. 14 at Mullen Memorial Baptist Church, Belpre, with pastors Tim Haring and Mark Wilding, the Rev. D. Larry Hooper and Pastor Kevin Rowland officiating. Reed Nellie M. Reed, 89, of Millstone, died Dec. 10 at Roane General Hospital. She was born in Braxton County, a daughter of the late James P. and Florence K. Santa Hardway. She was a member of the Stoney Point United Methodist Church at Arnoldsburg and was a homemaker. She is survived by three sons, James Reed of Millstone, Alvin Reed and wife Karen and Carry Reed and wife Sheila, all of Parkersburg; two daughters, Brooksene Kerby and husband Ben of Millstone and Judith M. Price of Elizabeth; two brothers, Gene Hardway of Mount Zion and Carroll Hardway of Nicut; three sisters, Irene Lambert and Hallie Lambert, both of Strange Creek, and Glennis Carter of Nicut; 13 grandchildren; and 18 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, Carry F. Reed; one son, Larry Reed; two brothers, Brooks and Casto Hardway; and one grandchild, Bradley Kerby. Gary Sims Gary Sims, 55, of Parkersburg, died Dec. 10 at his residence. He was born in Parkersburg, a son of the late Harry and Agnes Weaver Sims. He is survived by his wife, Darlene Edwards Sims; one son, Brian Sims of Parkersburg; two stepsons, John and David Caplinger, both of Parkersburg; three daughters, Kimberly Dawn Sims, Mandy Bethel Sims and Adrema Wells, all of Parkersburg; one stepdaughter, Tonya Caplinger of Parkersburg; one brother, David Sims of Parkersburg; two stepbrothers, Buddy Sims and Brooks Layner Jr., both of Parkersburg; one sister, Dorothy Kelley of Mineral Wells; one stepsister, Loretta Sims of Parkersburg; five grandchildren, Bryhan Sims, Dakoda Sims, Candace Knicely, Mike Knicely and Dereck Wells; and two stepgrandchildren, William Denmore and Kelsey Caplinger. Maze Snider, 94, of Parkersburg, died Dec. 9 at Camden-Clark Memorial Hospital. She was born Feb. 2, 1905, near Industry in Calhoun County, a daughter of the late Samuel M. and Mettie M. Garrison Maze. She was an active member of Christian churches from early childhood and for nearly 65 years as a member of the Seventh Street United Methodist Church, Parkersburg. She was known for her activities in interdenominational church affairs as well as her many years as a Sunday school teacher. For more than 30 years, she assisted her late husband Basil M. Snider in the operation of Snider Plumbing and Heating Co. She is survived by her son, Basil Jr. and wife Betty Palmer Snider of Midlothian, Va.; three grandchildren, Brian Jay and wife Kate Line Snider of Richmond, Va., David Alan and wife Linda Bennett Snider of Mineral Wells and Cynthia Snider Gerber and husband Kirk of Orchard Park, N.Y.; one half sister, Willa Mae Maze Martin of South Bend, Ind.; seven great-grandchildren; and one stepgrandson. She was preceded in death by her husband, Basil M. Snider; her stepmother, Lona Coberly Maze; two sisters, Edith Cutright and Bernadine Locke; and two brothers, Joseph and Paul Maze. Services were held Dec. 12 at Seventh Street United Methodist Church with pastors Steve Rhoades as well as her nephew Dr. William Snider officiating. Burial was in Mount Olivet Cemetery. Leavitt Funeral Home, Parkersburg, was in charge of arrangements. Ricky L. Stevens Ricky Lee Stevens, 37, of lnterlachen, Fla., died Dec. 7 in Florida. He was born Nov. 23, 1962, in Parkersburg. He graduated from Parkersburg High School and was a factory worker at Florida Furniture. He is survived by his parents, Maxwell Stevens of Middleport, Ohio, and Diane E. Stevens of Elizabeth; two children, Eric Stevens of Parkersburg and Amanda Stevens of lnterlachen, Fla.; three brothers, David Stevens of Colorado, Richard Stevens of Elizabeth and Mike Collins of Parkersburg; one sister, Crystal Stevens of Elizabeth; several nieces and nephews; one aunt, Sandra Aurthor and her three children, Brian, Dee and Ruthann; and best friend, Mike Briggs of Parkersburg. Services were held Dec. 11 at Raiguel Funeral Home, Harrisville. Burial was in Hartley Cemetery. Eula A. Thorn Eula A. Thorn, 91, of Parkersburg, died Dec. 7 at Parkview Health Care Center. She was born in Reedy. She was a member of the Good Hope Baptist Church in Reedy and was a homemaker. She is survived by two sisters, Elva Luretta Coupe of Akron and Orpha C. Bumgarner of Belpre; and her nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, Harvey and Annie George Ledsome; her husband, Walter Thorn; an infant daughter; one sister, Pruda Blair; and two brothers, Tona Ledsome and Gerald Ledsome. Services were held Dec. 9 at Leavitt Funeral Home, Parkersburg, with the Rev. Paul Knierim officiating. Burial was in Two Run Cemetery, Wirt County.
