He was born in Creston, a son of the late James and Minnie Criss. He attended the churches of Wirt County and was a farmer. He is survived by two daughters, Edna Ward of Palestine and Mary Pauline Patterson of Marietta; six grandchildren, John Longfellow of Walker, Wayne Longfellow of Sandyville, Mary Somerville, of Elizabeth, Roger Longfellow of Elizabeth, Brenda Surratt of Cleveland, Ohio, and Christopher Patterson of New York; six great-grandchildren, Mary Francis, Chelsea, Bobbie Jean, Lori, Kevin and Angela; one great-grandson, Justin; and three sisters, Mabel Parks of Elizabeth, Francis Somerville of Parkersburg and Hazel Woodring of South Carolina. He was preceded in death by his wife, Clara Hall Criss, May 18, 1995; one son; one brother; and three sisters. Services were Nov. 20 at Matheny Pomroy Funeral Home, Elizabeth, with the Revs. Gladson Grim and Ray Whiteman officiating. Burial was in Hill Grove Cemetery.
