Wirt County Journal December 8, 1999 Obituaries Gordon J. Davis Gordon James "GJ" Davis, 80, of San Jacinto, Calif., formerly of Parkersburg, died Nov. 29 at his residence. A native of Spring Creek community, he was born in Palestine, the eighth of 11 children of the late James and Emma Tucker Davis. He was educated in Wirt County schools, having attended the Mount Solon and Hill Grove schools. He was a U.S. Navy veteran of World War II, having seen action in the North Atlantic, Arctic and Mediterranean. He was employed locally by Belpre Lumber Co. and Union Carbide of Marietta and was retired from AM Castle Co. in California. He is survived by his wife of 35 years, Betty Davis; one daughter, Joyce Gorrell of Belpre; two sons, Charles Davis of Parkersburg and Michael Davis of North Carolina; one brother, Marvin Davis of North Carolina; two sisters, Elva Wildman of Vienna and Garnet Hanna of Elizabeth; seven grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews. Services were held Dec. 5 at Busch Funeral Home, Elizabeth. Burial was in Veterans Cemetery in southern California. Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society, c/o Busch Funeral, Home, P.O. Box 43, Elizabeth, W.Va. 26143. Norma M. Dawson Norma M. Dawson of Vienna died Nov. 30 at her residence. She was born in Parkersburg, a daughter of the late William and Clarice Haught Sinnett. She was formerly employed as a proof operator for the Wood County Bank for 25 years. She was a Parkersburg High School graduate and attended Parkersburg Community College. She was a member of Eastern Star Minear Chapter 274 in Guysville, Ohio, and North Parkersburg Baptist Church. She is survived by one nephew and caretaker, Jerry Brown of Vienna; several other nieces and nephews; one sister, Eldred A. Shanks of Coolville; friend and caretaker, Cindy K. Turner of Vienna; friends, Anna Marshall of Mineral Wells and Naomi Fisher of Vienna. She was preceded in death by her husband, Jack Dawson, in 1981; two brothers; and two sisters. Candlelight services were held Dec. 2 at Sunset Memorial Funeral Home, Chapel of Remembrance, with Pastor Larry Dale and Dr. William P. Snider officiating. Burial was in Sunset Memory Gardens, Garden of Everlasting Life. Paul B. Exline Paul B. Exline, 71, of Newark, died Nov. 29 at Camden-Clark Memorial Hospital. He was born Dec. 22, 1927, in Parkersburg, a son of the late Thomas and Thelma Martine Exline. He graduated from Wirt County High School and attended Newark Baptist Church. He retired in 1985 from E.I. Dupont after 30 years of service, having been a service operator and a member of the 25-Year Club. He is survived by his wife, Justine Caltrider Exline, whom he married Jan. 7, 1950; one son and daughter-in-law, Greg and Colleen Exline of Ravenswood; one son, Jeffery Exline of Denver, Colo.; one daughter and son-in-law, Ellen and James Stewart of Reedy; five grandchildren, Kyla and Scott Exline of Ravenswood, Tawnya, Cody and Lydia Stewart, all of Reedy; two brothers, Robert and Charles Exline of Newark; two sisters, Barbara Exline and Dorothy Fought of Newark; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by one sister, Geraldine Jones; and one brother, Thomas Exline. Services were held Dec. 3 at Lambert-Tatman Funeral Home, Parkersburg, with the Rev. Terry Holley officiating. Burial was in Sunset Memory Gardens, Parkersburg. Karen S. Gunnoe Karen S. Gunnoe, 43, of Elizabeth, died Nov. 28 at Camden-Clark Memorial Hospital. She was born in Parkersburg, a daughter of Thomas C. and Agnes Carney Reed of Parkersburg. She was active with the Newark 4-H, Wirt County High School Band Boosters and other school activities. She is survived by her parents; her husband of 21 years, Robert L. Gunnoe; two daughters, April Dawn Gunnoe and Ashley Elizabeth Gunnoe, both of the home; maternal grandmother, Mary Hurd Carney; two aunts, Joan Snider and Bertha Shears, all of Parkersburg. She was preceded in death by one sister, Teresa "Terry" Reed. Services were Dec. 2 at Lambert-Tatman Funeral Home, Parkersburg, with the Rev. Timothy Waugh Sr. and Ronnie Blevins officiating. Snider Letha Holpp Snider, 82, of Fairborn, Ohio, died Dec. 3 at Day-Spring Health Care in Fairborn. She was born March 11, 1917, in Calhoun County, a daughter of the late John Wesley and Arzana Haught Holpp. She was a member of the First Baptist Church and the Garden Club in Jackson, Ohio. She is survived by two daughters and sons-in-law, Janet and Tom Swaim, Norma and John Wevurski, all of Fairborn; three grandchildren, Stephanie Archer and Susie Stegner, both of Powell, Ohio, and Kelley Niven of Ann Arbor, Mich.; seven great-grandchildren; one brother and sister-in-law, Avis C. and Doris Holpp of Wilksboro, N.C.; and three sisters and brothers-in-law, Zelda and Earl Stafford of Dover, N.H., Barbara and Bob Skogen of Brevard, N.C., and Melvina and Dave Anderson of Vienna. She was preceded in death by one brother, John Holpp Jr. Services were held at Leavitt Funeral Home, Parkersburg. Burial was is Sunset Memory Gardens. Connie S. Wagoner Connie S. Wagoner, 55, of Parkersburg, died Nov. 29 at St. Joseph's Hospital. She was a member of South Parkersburg Baptist Church. She is survived by one son, John R. Tippens of Parkersburg; one daughter, Cynthia Harwood of North Carolina; two brothers, Steve Llewellyn and Jay Brown of Parkersburg; one half sister, Karen Llewellyn of Dallas, Texas; one aunt, Doris Shepard of Parkersburg; one grandson, Johnathan Tippens of Woodbridge, Va.; and caregiver, Connie Boggs of Elizabeth. She was preceded in death by her first husband, Harold Lester Tippens; and second husband, Robert Lee Wagoner. Services were held Dec. 2 at Leavitt Funeral Home, Parkersburg, with Pastor Ed Rogers Jr. officiating. Burial was in Vaught Chapel Cemetery.
