    1. [WVWIRT] Buffalo Church
    2. Tom & Betty Dotson Renick
    3. I have the following in my notes regarding my great grandparents: Henry Hamilton Miller and Elvira Ann Thorn Miller: >From History of Wirt Co (written by N.W. Thomas) Buffalo Methodist Church in Wirt County was located on a ridge between the head of Thorn's Run and Falling Timber Run. It was first organized in 1878. Church had a class called "Falling Timber Methodist Class" They met in a log house which was also used for school. Among the first members were H.H. Miller and Elvira A his wife. The new church (Methodist Protestant) was built on 1/2 acre deeded to trustees HH Miller et. al. 2/25/1886. HH Miller and wife are both buried at cemetery at rear of church and stone was in good condition as of 4/23/1992 when we visited church and cemetery. 1900 Henry Hamilton Miller bought 83 acres at the head of Falling Timber near Buffalo Church in Wirt Co at $5 per acre. In 1921 Daughter Mary Emma Miller and husband Wm Dountain Dotson sold those 83 acres to Oscar Hupp for $10 per acre. Surface only. ( No mineral rights). Henry Hamilton Miller was one of the earliest certified teachers in Wirt Co, WV Betty Dotson Renick http://www.familytreemaker.com/users/r/e/n/Betty-D-Renick/ That's strange; half my ancestors are WOMEN!

    3. In Wirt Co., I am researching early families (ca 1790 to ca 1820), primarily Beauchamp and Rigg. I have seen the old cemetery in Elizabeth where several of the Beauchamps are buried. The widow of Benjamin Gibbons, who reportedly married Benjamin Rigg , was said to have been buried in the Pribble cemetery. I could not find this cemetery using the USGS geographic name server, though it lists many other cemeteries Wirt Co. Perhaps it is listed under another name, or not listed. I did find reference to it in an article dating back to 1941, but the article did not mention where it was located. The way the 1941 article was worded, it sounded like the cemetery may have been on land owned by a Thomas Pribble in the early 1800s, though it also mentioned a Mrs. Hiram Pribble. 3. I'm on the road in Kentucky, so I don't have access to my records, but just a quick note on the Cains. Delores you mentioned that Thomas Horner's father was Michael O'Cain, I have a feeling where you got that information, by your wording, "The History of Roane County", which is full of inaccuracies. Thomas Cain's father was Richard Cain, Richard came from Hunterdon County,New Jersey to Monongalia county,Virginia(WV) I'm not sure of the date I have it at home, Richard fought in the revolutionary war. I have Richard's will information from Monongalia county as well as affadavits that Thomas and Mary had to sign about three times from Monongalia county to Wood county around 1815. Richard's father was Walter, I have his Will from Hunterdon county,New Jersey. i just wanted to correct that information while I thought about. that history was a lot of hear say, in fact his favorite line was "it is said". He mentioned the Curfmans briefly and he said that two brothers James and Samuel came from Greenbrier county, when in fact they came with thier father Christopher "Michael" Curfman and mother, Rebecca Carman Curfman along with two other brothers Nathaniel who married Harriet ball and William who married Mary Ann and Elizabeth Cain's cousin, Caroline Cain, from Jefferson county,Ohio by Fredrick county,Maryland. Just wanted to make that correction. Thanks. [email protected] wrote: Disoway Cain who was the son of Thomas Horner Cain is my gggrandfather. I suspect it might be Shiloh Baptist Church at Enterprise or Bethesda Baptist Church in Palestine as my father was born and raised in that area. Hope someone can help. 3. Phyllis, Is it possible that you are descended from John DYE who died in Wood County about 1827. John was the stepfather of my ggg grandfather William CAZIER. His father, James CAZIER Jr., died in Prince William County in 1794, the year James was born. His mother, Betsy (CAHOE) CAZIER remarried to a John Dye. I suspect that Betsy & John's marriage occurred in Prince William or a nearby county and they moved to Wood County some time before 1810. (Wirth county formed from part of Wood county after 1820). John shows up in the 1810 census & the 1811 county tax list. They lived near "Elizabethtown", which I suspect is the present day Elizabeth, WV. That would have put them in the part of Wood County that became Wirth County. Any help you can give me on the Dye family would be appreciated.
