State of West Virginia County of Braxton On this 17 day of February, A.D. one thousand nine hundred and two personally appeared before me, a Notory Public within and for the county and State aforesaid, Nancy J Davis, aged 73 years, a resident of Flatwoods, County of Braxton State of West Virginia, who, being duly sworn according to law, makes the following declaration in order to obtain pension under the provisions of the act of Congress approved June 27, 1890, as amended by the act of May 9, 1900. That she is the widow of Joseph E Davis, who was enrolled under the name of Joseph E Davis at Clarksburg Wva on the TwentyEight day of October, 1862 as a Private in Co. E, 1 Regiment West Virginia Light Artillery and honorably discharged June 28", 1865, having served ninety days or more during the late war of the rebellion. That the soldier was in the military or naval service of the United States except as stated above. That she was married under the name of Nancy J Cutlip to said soldier at Centerville Lewis Co. Wva on the 3" day of July, 1847, by Rev John Smith; that there was no legal barrier to the marriage; that she had not been previously married; that the soldier had not been previously married. That the said soldier died 23 December, 1901, at Flat Woods Wva; that she was not divorced from him; that she has not remarried since his death; and that she is without other means of support than her daily labor and an actural net income not exceeding two hundred and fifty dollars per year.
