From: The Webster Echo, Oct. 13, 1899 UPPER GLADE. Everything seems to be in a prosperous condition at present. Some of our hustling farmers have cominced husking corn. F. M. Weese, ex-member of the County Court, has opened up a saloon at his residence at Upper Glade. J.S. Herndon is taking orders for the American Woolen Mills Company, for made to order clothing. Jim has sold a good many suits about here. Some of our boys attended Federal Court at Clarksburg last week. Mrs. Laura Ruddle of Sand Fork, Gilmer county, is visiting her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Griffin this week. S. R. Jones, the Turkey Creek lumberman, is droving a team for Edwin Hollisster. Ira Cherrington has purchased a saw-box and some others repairs for his saw mill from Hart Bros., and will begin sawing again this week. Thomas Rigsby has contracted to put some timber into Gauley river, for the Gauley Company. Rev. John Cogar preached an eloguent sermon at the Upper Glade church Sunday. The kissing bug has not been seen in this vicinity as yet, but we have been bothered a great deal with some kind of a bug, but we hope that some good farmer who attends the Webster County Farmer's Institute at Cowen will apply some name, and then suggest some way to eradicate it.
