    3. From: The Webster Echo, March 28, 1902. ERBACON. Spring is coming slowly. Garden making is the order of the day. Buds and grass are showing signs of life. A little dog case is attracting the court, bar and a few others. W. N. Long has rented the E. L. Floyd property and will soon move into same. Mrs. Sarah Dillon is again indisposed with her old trouble, for which she was treated at a Baltimore hospital. Dr. E. E. Edgell is expected home from Clarksburg tomorrow, the 25th. We expect him to bring us coal facts. "Uncle" Jake Byers and daughter Jane took the train here last Saturday for Parkersburg, where they will reside in the future. Austin Carder and wife, of Doddridge county, are here, and expect to remain during the summer, as Mr. Carder claims to have better health here than in Doddridge. S. A. DeLung, that hustling school teacher, is filling his father-in-law's position as chief cook for John Davis' saw-mill crew whilst "Dad" McCombs is at home with his family. "To free his hands from clinging dough, he kneads a barrel of flour." The Erbacon school closed last Friday with appropriate exercises. The teacher, Mr. S. B. Cook, gave fairly good satisfaction. He is a man of firm principle and solid in methods of instruction. He looks well to his pupils' moral welfare. Trustees make a splendid choice when they select "Saul of Erbacon." Rev. S. B. Holcomb, our resident preacher, horse jockey, dealer in blooded fox hounds and all round jolly citizen, is hauling staves from Albin Hall's to Erbacon for A. F. Scott. Black uses the whip in his left hand, but he gets there with a load just the same, and is piling the staves up by the hundreds. We see the candidates are coming one by one. But we want to see more than one for each office. We would like also to see in each announcement one or the other of the following declarations: I am opposed to the granting of license, or I am in favor of License. It would then take no political card to explain their attitude and it would prevent any misconstruction. RATTLER.
