    1. [WVWEBSTE] Missing Tombstones?
    2. michael henline
    3. Occasionally i'll hear stories about a couple tombstones that were unloaded at one of the numerous train depots that once dotted the landscape from Cowen to Erbacon. These stones were never picked up and sat at the depot for years. A couple days ago i heard the same story again, from a man who says they were unloaded at the depot near the mouth of Lost Run (there are about seven cemeteries located in this hollow). He claims to have played on these stones as a child and that they are still there, covered over with dirt. Nobody can remember the names or dates on the stones, or why they were never picked up. Were the stones unloaded at the wrong place? Did the families of the deceased move or die before the stones could be erected? Were the stones 'lost' and the monument company replaced them? A new family has bought the place where the stones are buried, and the man telling me the story thinks they may have uncovered one of the stones. He is going to check and see if he can find out a name and date. Wouldn't it be great to find these long lost stones and be able to finally place them on the graves where they were supposed to go many years ago?! Yet another errant stone is located on a farm above Halo. It is a mystery how the stone came to be there, the person telling me the story says that because of the position and location of the stone it was obvious that it wasn't marking a grave. All that was known about the stone was that there was a note that the person had served in the Spanish American War (1898). It should be easy to find out the name on this stone and there may be a record at the court house as to where the person is buried. _________________________________________________________________________ Get Your Private, Free E-mail from MSN Hotmail at http://www.hotmail.com.
