    3. From: The Webster Echo, March 22, 1901. ERBACON. The mattock and axe are in vogue. W. F. Frame, of Sutton, was here last week. Haymond Friend, of Triplett, Braxton county, was here on business last week. Don't forget the debate on Saturday night March 23, as it will doubtless be a treat. Uncle Lewis McElwain, of Wainville was here last Wednesday, having been summoned as a joror in the Fox-Goad action. Dr. A. N. Ellison, of Little Birch, rode into our town Wednesday. He is 85 years old, and rode horse back 12 miles to get here. the Doctor's many friends were glad to see him once more. Black Holcomb, preacher, hunter, and all round farmer, has purchased a house and lot of A. N. Ellison for $175. Black knows a bargain when he sees it, since the great stir in material wealth. John Davis, one of Erbacon's prosperous and energetic farmers, is greatly improving his dwelling house. Jake Carpenter, that genius worker is wood, who can make anything from wood that was ever dreamed of, is doing the work. Jake is not as green as he is green looking. There was a little scrap here last Friday evening between Jake Wilson and David McCown, in which it seems that McCown made an assault upon Wilson, hitting him with a stone. Wilson swore out a warrant before Squire Shinn and had McCown brought into Court. He confessed for five dollars fine and cost. RATTLER.
