Santee, 96, of Rootstown, died Wednesday, at Robinson Memorial Hospital in Ravenna. Born Aug. 31, 1903, in Spencer, W. Va., she was the daughter of the late Laphy J. and Mary Melissa (Kincaid) Santee, and had lived in Randolph for 55 years, before moving to Rootstown two years ago to live with her daughter. Mrs. Santee was a member of the First Baptist Church of Atwater for 39 years. Survivors include her son, Francis Arthur (Margaret) Santee of Tallmadge; daughter, Norma Jean (David) Wilkes of Rootstown; five grandchildren, four great-grandchildren, three stepgreat-grandchildren; sisters, Virgie Lowe of Barberton, and Sergie Umbaugh of Florida. She was preceded in death by her husband, Arthur Santee, on March 17, 1961; brothers, David, Harlen and Woodrow Santee; and sister, Oma Ralston. Friends will be received from 6 to 9 p.m. Friday at the First Baptist Church of Atwater, where services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Rev. Timothy Black officiating. Virginia Parker met her Lord and Saviour, Jesus Christ, face to face on Wednesday, May 17, 2000. She was born Nov. 23, 1914, in Mannington, W. Va. Mrs. Parker was a member of Mission Baptist Temple in Stow. During her life, she taught Sunday School for nearly 30 years at the Akron Baptist Temple and Kent Baptist Temple. She was a resident of Stow for almost 50 years. Virginia was preceded in death in 1986 by her husband of 50 years, James E. Parker. She is survived by daughters and sons-in-law, Anna and Earl Norrod of Akron; and Sally and Wayne Pickens of Stow; grandchildren, Lisa (Shawn) Stack, Jerry W. Pickens, and Becky (Shawn) Crabeels; great-grandchildren; Tyler Thouvenin, Jordan and Nicholas Stack, and Alexis Crabeels; sisters, Emily Phipps of Canton, Helen Wise of Valparaiso, Fla., and Barbara Pittinger of Klamath Falls, Ore.; and brother, Robert Huey of Hurricane, W. (at Gilchrist Road). (NEWCOMER-FARLEY, 784-3334.) Vergie Pearl George, ``the hat lady,'' went to her Lord quietly at her home Wednesday, May 17, 2000, at the age of 93. She was preceded in death by husband, D. Lee; daughter, Marceda Ann; infant son, David Lee; father and mother, Albert and Laura Hibbs; sisters, Beryl, Dove and Fannie; and brother, James. She leaves her foster daughter, Joyce Crislip and her husband, Roger Crislip; granddaughters, Leslie Rolf, Jenifer Faircloth and Kimberly Payne; and great-granddaughter, Tosca Rolf; also, many cousins, nieces and nephews in the Akron area and in West Virginia. Vergie was born in Sand Run, W. Va., on March 18, 1907, where she resided until she married and moved to Akron. She lived on a farm north of Barberton. Vergie loved the farm and gave her life to it, driving the tractor in the fields, as well as raising vegetables and fruits which she canned and froze and even sold at a roadside stand in front of the house for over 50 years. The family also raised hogs for the World War II effort. She took in and cared for foster children along with her own daughter during World War II. In later years, Vergie turned her yard and garden into a showplace of flowers. She also became well known for the beautiful hats she always wore -- one to match every outfit. She was a lifelong member of the Sand Run Baptist Church in West Virginia and attended the Akron Baptist Temple. She belonged to the Golden Agers at the ABT, Norton Senior Citizens, and Akron Country Western Music Association. She worked tirelessly at dinners and other activities for these groups. She traveled extensively with the Golden Agers in recent years. She will be remembered for her good deeds as a neighbor and friend, delivering gifts, providing transportation, and visiting shut-ins. Interment at Greenlawn Memorial Park. CUYAHOGA FALLS -- Dola L. H. Currie (nee Hildreth), 83, passed away May 17, 2000. Mrs. Currie was born in Oakdale, W. Va., grew up in Cadiz, Ohio, and lived in Cuyahoga Falls for over 50 years before moving to Canton in 1994. She was employed for 25 years as a stabilization specialist for the U. S. Department of Agriculture. She was a member of St. John's Episcopal Church of Cuyahoga Falls, where she co-founded the Soup Kitchen, was a 10-year volunteer at Good Neighbors, and was president of the Canton Regency Residence Board, where she resided. Preceded in death by husband, George, she is survived by sons and daughters-in-law, Richard and Mary Jane of North Canton, and Dennis and Lori of Cuyahoga Falls; eight grandchildren, five great-grandchildren; sisters, Tulsa Snyder and Dorothy Harrick of Louisville, Ohio; brothers, Raymond Hildreth of Cuyahoga Falls, Roy Hildreth Jr. of Cadiz, and Kenneth Hildreth of Palm Springs, Calif. There will be no calling hours. A memorial service will be conducted at 11 a.m. Saturday at St. John's Episcopal Church, Rev. Jeffrey Richard and Rev. Bill Tompkin officiating. Lucas, 79, of Canton, died Wednesday at the home of his daughter, Jill Rhoads, in Kent, Ohio. Born in Fairmount, W. Va., he was the son of the late William C. and Wilda E. (Stottlemire) Lucas. He was retired from the Timken Co., and was a member of the West Congregation of Jehovah's Witnesses. He was preceded in death by his wife, Eileen D. Lucas in 1995; two brothers, and one sister. He is survived by his daughters and sons-in-law, Jill and Launie Rhoads of Kent, Pamela Smith of Florida, Ellen and John Loudin of Shinston, W. Va.; son and daughter-in-law, Edward L. and Cindy Lucas of Alliance; nine grandchildren, five great-grandchildren.
