From: The Webster Echo, July 12, 1944. Page 1. Arcola News There seems to be quite a bit of activity around the old swimming hole here these days. Mrs. Eva Tracy is improving after a long illness. Ursher Jarvis, of Lost Run, who was hurt in a slate fall in the Kessler mine on Gauley River, several weeks ago, seems to be very much improved. Waitman Jarvis, of the navy spent a 17-day furlough with his parents recently. A small son of Fletcher Workman, while visiting the home of his grandfather, Hoy Henline, was bitten by a dog. At last report he was much improved and able to return home with his parents to Monterville. We understand that Arthur Smith, of Erbacon, was seriously hurt in a slate fall on Gauley River July 6 and was taken to a hospital. We are informed that Fred Newman, of Baltimore, Md. is moving into the Wright property here. Mrs. Clyde Weese and sister, Eva Diehl have gone to Columbus, Ohio. The latter to take treatment at the White Cross hospital for ulcers of the stomach. Delbert Diehl and family, of Bergoo, were visiting his parents here the Fourth of July. Alvin Wright has joined the marines. The farmers seem to be all out for production and everyone trying to do their bit on the home front.
