    2. LTC William Paul Fisher (USAF Ret.), 76, of Navarre, Fla., died Sunday, April 16, 2000, at the Ft. Walton Beach Medical Center, after succumbing to a brief illness. ``Bill'' was born in Philippi, W. Va., on Sept. 3, 1923, to Marvin and Goldya Fisher. A longtime resident of Akron during his youth, he retired in 1977 in Florida, where he had been living since 1972. His wife, formerly Doris Marie Robinson, who herself was born in Akron, died suddenly in 1996. They were a loving and devoted couple for 52 years. After earning his wings in the Army Air Corps during World War II, Fisher rose to the rank of lieutenant colonel in the U.S. Air Force. While on active duty as command pilot, he flew a variety of aircraft, including the B-26, C-123, and C-130. He was stationed at bases all over the world, including Germany, Okinawa, and Alaska. He was a decorated veteran of World War II, and both Korean and Vietnam conflicts. ``Bill'' was an avid golfer, baseball enthusiast, and football fan all his life. His interested ranged widely and included sports cars, amateur astronomy and photography, ham-radio operation, country music, and world travel. He held a bachelor's degree in business from the University of Akron, and worked for a time after the war at Goodyear, where his father had been a lifelong employee. He also earned a master's degree in business from George Washington University. Survivors include his eldest daughter, Carole, and her husband, Mike McCloy, of Satellite Beach, Fla.; his son, Edward and his wife, Gayle, of Pine Bush, N.Y.; and youngest daughter, Barbara, and her husband, Grover Asmus, of Mobile, Ala. He was a proud grandfather eight times over, and had three great-grandchildren. Memorial services were held April 20 at McLaughlin Mortuary Chapel, with an Air Force chaplain officiating. He was buried with full military honors at Barrancas National Cemetery in Pensacola, Fla.
