For those who missed it, Sunset Memorial Park is in Erbacon. Just before you get to the fire house (used to be the grade school) a road turns off to the right (White Oak Road/Carpenter Fork). The cemetery sits in the fork between the main road and White Oak Road. I have been involved in cemetery upkeep and restoration since childhood. Twenty five years ago my parents began clearing the Adkisson Cemetery on Erbacon Road. It was overgrown with briars and trees, it wasn't possible to pass from one end of the cemetery to the other without cutting a path. My family has also been responsible for the upkeep of the Arcola Cemetery for several years. There are several stones in the Adkisson cemetery which need to be straightened, and a couple small ones are on the ground. A couple of the Crosby stones have crumbled into illegibility. Announcements in the Echo usually results in enough donations to hire someone to do the mowing for the summer. With the lack of substantial news in Webster County the newspaper would probably be happy to print any item which may be of interest. Not all cemeteries appear on USGS maps, I don't know that there is a size limit but i can't remember seeing any cemeteries listed which contained less than twenty graves. There is a symbol for a cemetery but i can't remember now what it is, churches are designated with a cross and cemeteries can usually be found in the vicinity of churches. >From: "Dan Hamrick" <dhamrick@neo.rr.com> >To: WVWEBSTE-L@rootsweb.com >Subject: Re: [WVWEBSTE] Sunset Memorial Park Here it is >Date: Sat, 29 Jul 2000 17:09:06 -0400 > > What an incredible service you are performing.
