    3. From: The Webster Echo; Aug. 31, 1900. HARDWOOD. A few showers of rain this week, which was needed badly. ....E. E. Cottrill is running his saw mill at Hardwood Siding this week. He contemplates moving his mill up to hardwood next week, where he will saw considerable lumber....Mr. Cartwright, of Heater Station, and Mr. Berry, of Salt Lick, Braxton couty, passed through our town from Addison a few days ago....R. Koon, of Marcus, will saw a set near Hardwood for the Stout Lumber Company. They intend to commence next week....John Morris has purchased a good team of horses and outfit from Mr. Cottrill....Walter Case and John T. Morrison are cutting timber for O. S. Taylor, near Hardwood....Mrs. E.izabeth Garrison, of White Oak, returned home this morning from visiting her brother, J. A. Keller, at Excelsior....The school will commence at this place the 10th of next month. We hope Mr. Thomas will make a success....Corn is a pretty fair crop, considering the drought....Ellis Weese, the road overseer, has been out working road hands for the last two weeks. Why don't they work roads sooner, say in May or June of each year, so we could have some good roads a part of the year. TRY ME.
