    2. Mary Alease Edwards, 83, passed away peacefully June 14, 2000, in Akron. She was born in Republican Grove, Halifax County, Va., on March 21, 1917. Mrs. Edwards retired in 1978 from the Division of Motor Vehicles in Danville, Va., and was a member of First Baptist Church, Main Street, Danville. Preceded in death by her husband, George F. Edwards, in 1990; parents, John T. and Lessie Power Holland; brothers, Marshall and Mitchell; and sister, Mildred Spencer of Halifax, she is survived by her sister, Betty Beale of Midlothian, Va.; son and daughter-in-law, George and JoAnn; grandchildren, Jason, Mary Beth, and Mark; great-granddaughter, Makayla Alease, all of Uniontown; and loving nieces and nephews. Services will be held in Danville, Va., at the convenience of the family. Memorials may be made to the Uniontown United Methodist Church, 13370 Cleveland Ave. N.W., Uniontown 44685. (Hopkins Lawver, 733-6271.) Virginia Alice Wilkinson, 85, passed away June 16, 2000. She was born March 1, 1915, in Salem, W. Va. She worked as a seamstress for Green Cross Hospital in Cuyahoga Falls. She was preceded in death by father and mother, Fredrick and Lucy Williams. She is survived by husband, Carl; daughters, Barbara Jean (Bobbie) Carroll, Loretta Buffa; sister, Lois (Robert) Davis; 11 grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren, and a great-great-granddaughter. Funeral services will be at the Bacher Funeral Home, 3326 Manchester Rd., on Monday, June 19, at 1:30 p.m. Friends may call two hours prior to the service. Rev. Bill Lee will officiate. (Bacher, 644-0024.) Word has been received that Paul Ludwick, 91, died Sunday, June 4, 2000, at his residence in Philippi, W. Va. He had been in declining health for the past several weeks. He was born May 4, 1909, in Knottsville Community, Taylor County, the oldest child of the late Russell and Ocie McDaniel Ludwick. He was united in marriage on June 3, 1939, to the former Vivian M. Corder, who preceded him in death Sept. 10, 1962. Later, he was united in marriage to Opal W. Hardin, who preceded him in death Aug. 24, 1998. Surviving are daughters and son-in-law, Cora Sue and Carl M. Shaffer of 1017 Kubler Trail, Akron, Ohio, and Mary Jane Ludwick of Philippi, W. Va.; and sister, Madelyn Losh of Okemos, Mich. He was also preceded in death by sisters, Margaret Wiland and Dorothy Ludwick. Mr. Ludwick attended school in Taylor County. He had been a member of the Philippi community for 65 years. For a number of years, he worked in various coal mines in the Barbour County area. He was a bulldozer operator for McCoy Brothers, Inc., for a number of years. During 1940 to 1942, he lived and worked in Rock Springs, Wyo., in the coal mines. During the war years of 1943 to 1945, he worked in the naval shipyards in Hampton, Newport News, and Norfolk, Va. He owned and operated Ludwick's Service Station on state Route 250, south of Philippi, for 45 years. His many memberships included Bigelow Lodge 52, AF&AM, Scottish Rite of Free Masonry, SJ, Valley of Clarksburg and Scottish Rite of Free Masonry, SJ, Valley of Wheeling. He was an honorary member of Tyhannon Sportsman Club, and was a member of the Crim Memorial United Methodist Church. Funeral services were held at the Wright Funeral Home on Wednesday, June 7, at 2 p.m. The Rev. Bryan Headley officiated. The eulogy was given by Robert (Buck) True. Interment was at the Mt. Vernon Memorial Cemetery. Members of Bigelow Lodge 52 AF&AM served as pallbearers and conducted graveside rites. Goldie M. Kerns, 87, passed away June 16, 2000, after a long illness. Born in Charleston, W. Va., Mrs. Kerns was a life resident of the Akron area, where she was a member of the Mogadore Baptist Church. Mrs. Kerns was a member of Akron A.A.R.P., the Billow Chapter 483, O.E.S., and the Yusef-Khan Caldron 24. Preceded in death by her husband, Ira L. (Jack) Kerns, in December 1976, she is survived by son, Richard (Elizabeth) Kerns of Florida; daughter, Jacqueline (Donald) Smith of Akron; five grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren, seven great-great-grandchildren; brother, Herman (Delores) Summers of Florida; and sister, Roxie Mozena of Wadsworth. Funeral services Tuesday, 10 a.m., at the Hopkins Lawver Funeral Home, 547 Canton Rd., Akron, with Pastor Perry Chronister and Pastor Hoyt D. Douglas officiating. Burial at Hillside Memorial Park. Va., he was a World War II Army veteran, having served in the Pacific Theater, and was the recipient of the Purple Heart. Mr. Booth retired from the U.S. Postal Service and was taking lessons from the Latter Day Saints Missionaries to learn about and become a member of the Church of Latter Day Saints. Preceded in death by his parents, Earnest E. and Madeline McIntire Booth; and sister, Geneva Mann, he is survived by his wife of 31 years, Ruth; sons, Bob Chalman and Randy Booth, both of Florida, and Rob Chalman of Barberton; daughter, Cherie Falcone of the home; 11 grandchildren, two great-grandchildren; brother, Thomas E. Booth of Montana; sisters, Genevieve Miller, Mae Weaver, and Frances Staubs, all of Akron. Funeral services Tuesday, 1 p.m., at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, 106 E. Howe Rd., Tallmadge, Elder Paul Hardy officiating. Entombment at Hillside Mausoleum, where Firestone Post 3383 will conduct military services. Fern Brotherton, 93, of Akron, died June 16, 2000. Born in Preston County, W. Va., she lived in the Akron area most of her life. She retired from Goodyear Tire Engineering Department after 21 years service, and was a member of the Firestone Park United Methodist Church and AARP for many years. She was preceded in death by husband, Robert; and granddaughter, Judy Geib, and is survived by daughters, Nancy (Blair) Bader of Graysville, Ohio, Joyce (Darrel) Mangrum of Rootstown; brother, Thomas Emil Jenkins of California; nine grandchildren, and 19 great-grandchildren. Calling hours will be Monday, 4 to 7 p.m., at Schermesser Funeral Home, 1446 S. Main St. Funeral services Tuesday, 11 a.m., at the funeral home, with Rev. Max Beery officiating. Bender, 64, went home to be with the Lord on Friday, June 16, 2000, after giving so much joy to the family she raised and the hearts she touched. She was a loving wife, mother, and grandmother. Born in Parcoal, Webster County, W. Va., Frances had been an area resident for the last 33 years. She was a member of McLeister Memorial Church. She will be sadly missed by her husband, Robert L. Bender Sr.; daughters, Kathy M. Shreve of Martinsburg, W. Va., Beverly I. Whitt, Desirea M. Bender, and Calista M. Bender, all of Akron; sons, Robert L. Bender Jr., Randall W. Bender, Stephen H. Bender, and Larry F. Bender, all of Akron. Frances also had numerous grandchildren; three great-grandchildren, Yasmine Nekol Bender, Jaden Lee Ludwig, Dominic James Whitt, and one unborn great-grandchild. She was preceded in death by her father, Gennis G. Shoulders; mother, Edith Marie Shoulders (Cool); and brother, Tony Shoulders.
