    1. [WVWEBSTE] FAMILY SCRAPBOOK - Part 2, C.P. Lynch
    2. Robert L. Lynch
    3. Thanks Lenore. Now I know where I was in April 1931. My father, C.P. Lynch, was born on Grassy Creek, the son of VanLinden and Millie Conrad Lynch, grandson of Adam Gregory and Sarah Arthur Lynch and Jacob Peter and Elizabeth Alkire Conrad. Antecedents include William Arthur, Joseph Friend, John Lynch Sr., Mary Moore, Elizabeth Davisson and Sarah Given among others. He wrote about the Lynch family in " West Virginia and its People" by Miller and Maxwell, 1913. In 1931 he would have visited with Aunt Lou Benedum and with his wife's uncle, James Morrison Gillespie and aunt Mary Skidmore Gillespie. We would have eaten at Ella Gregory's restaurant (she had the restaurant and bus station). We probably went to Cowen to visit Aunt Cena (Mrs. R., F. Pierson). and Uncle Lee Lynch. Aunt Cena's children Louise and Ernest Miller were in Cowen then. My grandfather Vanlinden moved to Buckhannon in the 1890's so his sons could get an education. His brother George followed a few years later. C.P. became interested in gas and oil properties, and later in mining in the west and Mexico. In 1931 my mother returned from Mexico to Buckhannon to enroll my brother and me in school. My father travelled back and forth. I presume F. E. Conrad would be Fletcher E. Conrad, a nephew of Millie Conrad Lynch. Thanks for the clipping Robert Lynch

    1. [WVWEBSTE] Cherokee Indian Names & Relatives?
    2. Faith Blount
    3. Hello, Does anyone out there happen to know if any of these names would be of Cherokee decent? STILTNER, BAXTER, WOODS, or CLEVENGER. The reason I am asking is because my mother had told me that as a little girl that she was always told that one of her grandmother's was a full-blooded Cherokee Indian. I would like to somehow try and prove this. I realize this is hard to do, but I will just think about it as another brick wall. Anyone have any good sites for this? Does anyone know where I can look at the Indian's census records via the Internet or any other way for that matter. If there is anyone out there that had tried to prove something like this, and has succeeded in finding the answer whether it be true or false; will you please post your message in how you did it. Thanks, Faith blount@digital.net

    3. For GAIL: You have more that I do. Ho I only know that a Margaret Phares m. Arthur Johnson and had a daughter Margaret (Hinkle) Johnson that married Andrew Skidmore. No dates and no ancestors known to me. Ho I hope you do not have the "Heritage of Braxton County West Virginia, 1995 ed" >From pg. 111--"Grandparents: John (ca.1808-1881) and Elizabeth (Tetar) Dean (1810-1858)married in Randolph County, 26 Sept 1828. They orginally migrated from Pendleton County, VA. Elizabeth's family went west and traveled with the HINKLE / TETER / PHARES families between 1830-1840. Caps mine. Next Para: "Great-grandparents: Reuben Teter who was born 1785 and died in St. Clair Co.,IL, in 1842 and CHRISTINA (PHARES) TETER, who was born 1787 and died in Van Buren County, Iowa 1852. They married on Feb. 3, 1807 in Pendleton County, VA. The HENCKEL GENEALOGY by Junkin (1964) is a valuable reference on all the families associated with these lines." >From the "HERITAGE OF BRAXTON COUNTY WEST VIRGINIA 1995" Pg. 30 Braxton Co. Early Marriages by Ron Hardway John PHARIS to Cynthia WOODS 17 Oct 1839 by David Frame, Esq. This spelling was corrected in "Blake's Compilation" pg 27. >From the license part: John S. Pharis Cintha Woods 8 Oct 1839 Pg. 40. Braxton Co. Census of 1850 Family # 216 John Pharis M 31 Farmer Cynthia Pharis F 26 James S. Pharis M 9 Andrew W. Pharis M 7 Zacharia Pharis M 3 >From 1840 Braxton Census Family page #247 John Pharris >From pg 283 (index) Phares, Christina pg 111: m. Reuben Teter b.1785, d. 1842 in St.Clair Co. IL m. in Pendleton Co. VA on Feb. 3, 1807 Christina b. 1787, d. 1852 Phares, Elizabeth pg 236: wife of Joseph Skidmore born ca. 1730 Phares, Gwendolyn pg 106: lives in Clarcksburg nee Martin?? Phares, Veva M. pg. 163: m. Raymond Oscar Matheny b. 2 Oct. 1897, d. 12 July 1948. Now you have some clues for the family anyway. 3. Hello, I was wondering if someone out there could find a phone # or address for me. I had spoken with the newspaper today and they said that all of the new articles were destroyed by a fire prior to 1972. The West Virginia University Library they said have them all on micro film. I am desperately searching for a particular article that I know is out there regarding my ggrandfather - Lee Anderson Arthur. If anyone could help it would be greatly appreciated.
