Hi everybody, While looking through some old papers of my dad's, I came across the program for the Glade Dist. 8th Grade Commencement, May 23, 1939. Listed are the schools from Camden, Cowen, Dyer, Arcola and several others with only 1 or 2 students. If anyone is interested let me know, and I'll pass a copy on to you. App. 80 students are listed. I just learned about a neat website that I wanted to share with everyone. It's a place where you can record your raw data for others to use -- but you do need to list your source so don't put anything down you can't prove! I found it because I've been doing some research into my maternal grandfather's line in Iowa and someone directed me to it. I've just spent a little time recording my Phares data on the Braxton, Webster and Nicholas County boards. Take a look and see what you think. http://www.genexchange.com/wv/braxton/index.cfm Gail Phares Walkley
I am not sure if the Webster Republican is associated with the Webster Echo now or not, but when I contacted a person last year in regards to newspaper records, they said that they only hold them yearly. It might be worth trying again, but that is what I was told. Deanna, I was there last summer and I can tell you that they didn't have a whole lot. I ended up going to the library in Summersville, WV. The Webster library didn't have any microfilm, newspaper records, and very little genealogical info from books. They had a few heritage books and a big book on the McCutcheon family. That is only because one cannot leave the library without them. It is a pretty small library, and my cousin always just went to Summersville. That is where I saw a copy of the Augustus County Heritage Book right when it came out. They had one copy, and they kept it in the back room. You might want to try there. Good Luck, Jill "Deanna S. You might try the State Archives in Charleston. They have alot of the old newspapers on microfilm. I'm pretty sure they have the Webster Echo. Cathy >---------- >>From: "Deanna S. You might be able to research newspaper records at the Webster Echo weekly newspaper. You would just need to ask. My guess is that they will be confined to the Echo itself. dhamrick@neo.rr.com Dan Hamrick 402 23rd Street NW Canton OH 44709 Phone and fax: 330-454-2376 ---------- >From: "Deanna S. I have been to the library in Webster Springs. Its genealogical materials are very limited. I hate to sound critical but there was next to nothing there. I felt as though they were missing the entire genealogical boom. Better bets are the Cultural Arts Division in Charleston or Carlson Hall at West Virginia University in Morgantown. There are, of course, records in the Webster County Courthouse in Webster Springs. But there's a problem there, too, because the courthouse burned in 1888. dhamrick@neo.rr.com Dan Hamrick 402 23rd Street NW Canton OH 44709 Phone and fax: 330-454-2376 ---------- >From: "Deanna S. Has anyone on the mailing list visited the Webster-Addison Public Library in Webster Springs, WV? If so, what type of genealogical materials do they have? I was told that they don't have microfilmed newspapers, but am wondering if they maintain a file of newspaper obituaries and news articles. I would appreciate hearing about anyone's experience at this library. I plan to travel to Webster Co. later this month, and would like to know in advance what to expect. Thank you.

Aggie, I wish I had some information to share. The only thing that I know about Darrel Russell Paugh is he was 19 years old in 1934 when he married Thelma Frances Lake (my great aunt) in Buckhannon, WV. They were married for approximately 4 or 5 years. They had a daughter named Beulah, (my cousin). Beulah saw her dad once or twice after the divorce and that is the last she ever heard of her dad. She remembers that her grandmother Paugh's first name was Mary. If you have anything that might help please let me know. Thank you for your time. Just a reminder to all you Scots and Scots-Irish descendants out there. Tomorrow is National Tartan Day, declared so in America in memory of the contributions of the Scottish to our country. So drape one of your peoples' plaids on a shoulder and honor an ancestor who sacrificed and made it possible for you to proudly say that you are an American! Autumn
