    2. John Ruch
    3. Re Leander: I have run across Leander as a given name for boys, including a son of my Bartletts who came from England to Maryland and then to Little Hocking in Washington Co., Ohio. Don't know why they chose it, but Leander was a hero in a Greek legend. They also gave another son the middle name of Augustus, a Roman name. Maybe classical names were in style in the early 1800s? Who knows? My folks got my name from a movie! 2. Roger B. Stanley
    3. From: The Webster Echo, Feb. 5, 1904. ERBACON. Everybody is coughing. W. H. DeLung is clearing. R. M. Gross' family has scarlet fever. Jerome Luckey has moved to one of Waggy's camp houses. Wade Groves has moved into the "White House"on his new farm. A. N. Hines, teacher of the Missouri run school, is "measling" at Geo. A. Long's. A dynamite cap exploded in the stove at Waggy's store last week, puncturing Jerome Luckey's skin in about thirty places. Rev. C. N. Coffman, presiding elder of the M. E. Church, South preached several able sermons here last week to appreciable audiences. Nathan Barnett and Sylvester Jackson and son, Dick, of Braxton were visiting relatives here last week and attending to busiess matters. Glad to see the announcements of candidates appearing in the ECHO. "The early bird catches the worm." Of course the Executive Committee will give us a primary. As others are suggesting men for various offices, if not trampling upon the editor's rights, we suggest the name Eli Perrine for Commissioner of the County Court. We have not consulted Mr. Perrine, nor been "lectioneered by him.

    1. [WVWEBSTE] Jack. Feb. 1, 1907.
    2. Roger B. Stanley
    3. From: The Webster Echo; Feb. 1, 1907. JACK. Alex Keller was at Cowen Monday. Walter Case has been digging coal for Noah Green. B. F. Keller was at A. G. Green's on business recently. A. G. Green and John Morrison have been hog hunting the past week. Preston Cogar, of Erbacon, was here last Friday. He is employed by the Lee & Kessler Lumber Co. J. A. Keller, the hustling merchant and postmaster at this place made a flying trip to Hardwood siding one day last week. Henry Tyler, of this place, and Miss Anna Weese, of Lost Run, were quietly married at the home of the bride's parents on January 20th. We wish them a long journey through life, with few sorrow and many joys. A westbond freight train, consisting of two engines and about twenty cars, was wrecked here last Wednesday evening. Four cars were destroyed. A broken rail entered at the bottom of a loaded box car and came out at the top. Over two rails passed through the car. No one was hurt. Trains were delayed about eighteen hours. NOTE: There is a typo in this article. Henry Tyler was married to Amma Weese, not Anna Weese. Amma did have a sister named Anna who married M. S. "Samp" Morris. Amma & Anna were sisters to my grandfather, L. M. "Lute" Weese.

    2. Roger B. Stanley
    3. From: The Webster Echo; May 24, 1907. ERBACON. Corn is being planted. Farmers are behind with their work. Dr. Kenney returned Friday from visiting home folks. D. L. Long, of Braxton, visited relatives here last week, and took some pictures. Ye editor, T. A. Gregory, visited our town last week on business, and thereby gets his name in the paper. Mr. and Mrs. John C. Barnett, of Centralia, were visiting Mrs. Barnett's mother, Mrs. Jane Rollins, and other relatives, over Sunday. George W. White, resident of Erbacon and merchant at Wainville, is talking of removing his goods to our town, occupying the R. S. Carpenter store room. We welcome all business enterprises. A. C. Fowler has opened his ice cream parlor in the Hall House, and our "social element" repairs there for entertainment at least once per week. Choose your partners! Watch for the notices. Died, on Saturday evening, May 18, the three months old baby of Mr. and Mrs. Noah Weese. The little sufferer contended with whooping cough for about two weeks, and probably a complication of diseases, which finally caused its death. It was buried in the Erbacon Cemetery Sunday evening. Being their first and only child, the parents are grief-stricken over their loss.

    1. [WVWEBSTE] Wainville Dec. 25, 1903.
    2. Roger B. Stanley
    3. From: The Webster Echo; Dec. 25, 1903. WAINVILLE. Isaac Mathews was at Clarksburg on business Saturday.... Perry Cottrill, of Cedarville, is here visiting his brother Hance. ....W. W. Weese was at Upper Glade Sunday....H. D. Woods, the Cowen blacksmith, visited his parents here Sunday....Rev. M. W. Perrine is holding a revival meeting at Baker's Run....Judging from the number of express packages arriving daily, we are going to have a lively time Xmas....Revs. Worrel and Holcomb will begin a protracted meeting here the first Sunday in January. We hope that much good may be accomplished....A fine lot of ice was put up here last week, the thickest in many years....J. N. Johnson, of Sutton, is here visiting his daughter, Mrs. T. W. McElwain....The people in this vicinity were surprixed the other day to learn that Fred Valcourt, who has for some time been staying at N. A. McElwain's, was nothing less than one of New York's celebrated detectives, here in quest of a convict who had escaped from Sing Sing....On the 17th inst., Addison Weese, one of our enterprising farmers, met with an accident, the result of which we fear may prove fatal. He was at work in the woods and was struck on the head by a falling limb with such force that he was knocked senseless, and at this writing three days later, he is still sunconscious.

    3. Hi Mike, All I have to offer is what is posted below in my correspondence with Janet. That, and my mother-in-law just yesterday produced a picture of Morgan Tyler along with a cousin by the name of Coy Tyler. Also pictured is Hugh Springston, Ottis Green and Jake Green(No relation I am told) Date of photo is not known but Ottis appears to be in his late teens to early twenties so that would put the photo's date between 1924-1930. Morgan Tyler is said to have ran a lumber operation on the Gauley so an educated guess would be to put them in that vicinity. I do not know if Morgan actually owned the operation or just ramrodded it. Morgan is my wife's GG Grandfather...Benjamin Green married Morgan's daughter Ivy and their son Ottis is the one pictured with them. ----- Original Message ----- From: "michael henline" <patchez4@hotmail.com> To: <WVWEBSTE-L@rootsweb.com> Sent: Tuesday, August 22, 2000 3:46 PM Subject: Re: [WVWEBSTE] Morgan Tyler Family Now you've stirred my curiosity. I've been keeping an eye out for information about John Henry Tyler who married Rachel Carpenter. John was born abt 1858, his father's name was Isaac. To my knowledge John lived most of his life at Arcola, and is buried there. Some of the surnames mentioned are also connected to my Tylers, such as Green, Morris, Hickman, and Keller. >From: "Chadd and Martha Rose" <tuckman5@intrepid.net> >To: WVWEBSTE-L@rootsweb.com >Subject: Re: [WVWEBSTE] Morgan Tyler Family >Date: Tue, 22 Aug 2000 03:11:18 -0400 > >Hi Janet, > Thank you so much for the information. 3. For anyone interested. My wife and I recently transcribed chapter 10 of Willima C. Dodrill's "Mocassin Tracks and Other Imprints" it Tells the story of how Webster Cnty. was formed. I tried sending it directly to the list but it didn't go through so I posted it to the Biography Section instead. http://genconnect.rootsweb.com/gc/USA/WV/WebsterBios/3 Regards, Chadd Rose mailto: tuckman5@intrepid.net ***************************************** THE ELUSIVE ANCESTOR I went searching for an ancestor. I cannot find him still. He moved around from place to place and did not leave a will. He married where a courthouse burned. He mended all his fences. He avoided any man who came to take the U.S. Census. He always kept his luggage packed, this man who had no fame. And every 20 years or so, this rascal changed his name. His parents came from Europe. They should be upon some list of passengers to U.S.A., but somehow they got missed. And no one else in this world is searching for this man. So, I play geneasolitaire to find him if I can. I'm told he's buried in a plot, with tombstone he was blessed; but the weather took engraving, and some vandals took the rest. He died before the county clerks decided to keep records. No Family Bible has emerged, in spite of all my efforts. To top it off this ancestor, who caused me many groans, Just to give me one more pain, betrothed a girl named JONES.
