I will be coming to the Webster/Braxton/Nicholas area May 18-20 for a quick family history visit. What is the best place to stay in the area? Where is the best place to go, and is there anyone I should see? The names I'm researching are: mainly MACE and GIBSON, also KNIGHT, BAUGHMAN, DUFFIELD, GREEN, BAILES, CARPENTER, COX, GLASBURN, LEWIS, and SAWYERS. Thanks for any ideas/suggestions for this rather impromptu trip. Brenda Ericsson [email protected] is a temporary address. [email protected] and [email protected] still and will remain.
Shirley, There is a place called Thomas Mountain. It's located about 5 miles above Erbacon. My mother taught the country school there in 1942-43. There were only a few families living in that area. The ones I remember were Rodebaughs, Wilsons, Hinkles, Plymales. Don't recognize your people. Seems like there were some family cemetaries up there. The road may be improved now, but in the 40's it was a narrow dirt road that climbed upward and was impossible to travel in winter unless you had a truck. I recently found a map of early webster county which my mother made in grade school. She was born in 1906 in Webster. There is a list of 36 areas. 37 is numbered, but blank. She got a "B" so it must have been fairly correct. Anybody in Erbacon can point you to the Thomas Mountain road. Hope this helps, Lenore Radcliffe Yeager
Hello fellow listers, Could anyone tell me if there is/was a Thomas Mt. in/near Webster County, WV?? Two of my grandfather's siblings died as young children in 1905 and 1906; and the info from family just says born, died, and buried: Thomas Mt., WV. They are: Annie Rose Ellen GOOD (26 June 1903-16 March 1905) Mabel Gertrude GOOD (18 June 1905-2 Feb. 1906) Another sibling, Homer GOOD, died 1942--age 44 yrs. Buried in Oak Hill, WV (spouse: Maggie Loutz) I am hoping to visit the Webster Co. area next month; and I'm trying to get some info together by then. If anyone knows where Joshua and/or wife, Lydia Holcomb are buried; would appreciate that info also. They were found in the Glade District 1900 census page 2a that someone so graciously scanned for the Webster county site. Any help appreciated, thanks for reading, Shirley/NY

I am the one who forwarded the message which was received by me from another rootsweb. I apologize for the inconvenience that it has caused some you. However, if we would open our minds just a little bit then you should be able to see the POSSIBILITY of this or similiar acts happening. If you want me off the this rootsweb list then you take the necessary action to get me off. Practically every day I see information posted on these sites that is NOT correct.
This information is totally bogus. It is an urban legend that has been circulating around the Internet for several months. The incidents never happened. Even if it did happen, it is very unlikely that anyone could contract HIV in this manner. Please do not pass it on. If you did pass it on, please retract it. Hello everyone! I did some checking on this message and it appears to be a rehash of a hoax that was floating around last year. I found info on this particular one at this site: http://urbanlegends.miningco.com/library/weekly/aa032499.htm?pid=2733&cob=ho me When you get an email like this that is a warning or a plea or a chain letter, take a moment to check out the numerous hoax/virus pages online to see if the letter is true. 95% of these claims are false, even if they sound real or look official. Other examples include the "Win A Holiday" virus hoax or the "Little Girl is Dying" myth...or even the "It takes Guts to Say Jesus" virus hoax. Educate yourself about these hoaxes and scams. Some other sites include: www.cyndislist.com (look under computer information) www.mcafee.com -Virus software and hoax information or simply search for pages with this information. Please think twice before hitting that forward button, Thanks, Lisa Gregory -----Original Message----- This was passed on to me from the CDC out of Dallas >>> Subject: Safety Bulletin >>> Date: Wed., 17 Feb. 1999 >>>

Hi List, In honor of Mother's Day, I want to tell you about a woman that I never had the pleasure of meeting. She died about 36 years before I was born. Her name was FLORENCE WRIGHT. She was born around 1901 in Webster County, West Virginia to Martin Van Buren Wright and Mahala Trader. She married ALDEN O. WALKER on 1 Apr 1917 in Webster County. On 20 Jun 1918, she gave birth to a daughter, Beulah Irene Walker. About 2 years later, she gave birth to another daughter, AnnaLee Walker. Florence died between 1920 and 1925. I believe that it was around 1922. Alden and Florence were living in the community of Dain, WV when she died very suddenly. Florence liked flowers and Alden promised to plant her some in the yard. I think she died before he could fulfill his promise but every spring, up until his death, he planted marigolds. I think they were for her. I recently received a picture of Florence. She was young and thin, delicate looking. She has a sad look but very, very pretty. I think Florence would have been proud of her daughters. They grew up to be good Christian women, with loving families of their own. I don't know where she is buried. I have been unable to locate a death record or a cemetery listing. Alden remarried and from that marriage came my father, Roscoe Walker. So, I guess some could say that I have no direct connection to Florence and I can't explain why I feel so drawn to her. To Florence and all mothers, past and present-----HAPPY MOTHER'S DAY!!! Cathy

Does anyone know anything on the following family? I found them in the 1900 Webster County census. Barnett, David b. May 1860 WV WV WV Farmer Barnett, Ida b. Sep 1866 WV WV WV wife Barnett, William b. Mar 1884 WV WV WV son Barnett, Ira b. Jul 1886 WV WV WV son Barnett, Bessie b. Sep 1889 WV WV WV daughter Barnett, Pearl b. Dec 1891 WV WV WV son Barnett, E??reb b. Aug 1895 WV WV WV son Barnett, Elvie b. Feb 1898 WV WV WV daughter Some of this is very difficult to read. Ira may have married EVA LUANNA WALKER, daughter of LEWIS MARSHALL WALKER. They may have married on 13 Mar 1910 in Webster County. Eva Luanna is the sister of ALDEN OSCAR WALKER. One sister disappeared and it is believed that she was murdered while still a teenager. I am hoping to determine the identity of this sister. A connection to the Barnett family can help prove that it was not Eva. Thanks, Cathy
Does anyone have information on a Thomas W. McCourt? He was born around 1877 and was married to Flora Belle Green on 8-19 -1901 in James McCourt house who lived in the Holly District. Thanks, Kelly McCourt
