Hi Glenn and everyone ! My Sam was born in 1818 in Hardy County, Virginia. He married Mary Ann Idleman on Nov 17 1841. Im still fleshing out the facts of his life but have a few basic facts. He enlisted in Greenland, (West) Virginia along with his neighbors and formed Company I of the 7th (West) Virginia Infantry. I know that the Seventh was detatched to defend the Potomac; fortified the Baltimore & Ohio Railroad; the action at Romney, WV; the skirmishes near Herring Creek; Antietam; a Recon. from Harper's Ferry to Leesburg, Pa and involved (though barely) at Fredericksburg. The Seventh being out of ammunition (along with the Eighth Ohio and 24th New Jersey) and was ordered to stay behing the hill in the rear of the main brigades. Alas, my poor Sam died several days before Burnside finally got around to attacking at Fredericksburg, on Dec 6, 1882. Samuel H. Cosner is buried at Fredericksburg Cemetery in grave # 1404.
