“OBITS. BIG SANDY NEWS. Wednesday, February 10, 1999. MAGGIE SMITH 1906-1999. Maggie Smith, 92, of Fort Gay, West Virginia died Monday, February 8 after an extended illness. Mrs. Smith was born August 31, 1906 in Louisa, a daughter of the late Carl and Norma Webb Walker. She was alsopreceded in death by her husband, Fred Smith in 1989. She was a housewife and a member of the Baptist church. Survivors include five daughters, Beulah York of Huntington, West Virginia, Ruby Sabo of Cleveland, Ohio, Lucille Rhodes of Dunlow, West Vriginia, Betty Hale of Louisa and Anna Bowen of Fort Gay; four sons, Cecil Smith of Stoneville, Ohio, Fred Smith of Fort Gay, Howard L. Smith of Webb, West Virginia and Robert Smith of Louisa; two sisters, Ruby Smithers of Frankfort, Kentucky, and Nora Bartram of Ashland, Kentucky; two brothers, Lindsey Walker of Frankfort and Eskell Walker of Ashland, Ohio; 40 grandchildren; 26 great-grandchildren and 13 great-great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be conducted by Rev. Frankie Fry at 2 p.m. Wednesday (today), February 10 at Young Funeral Home Chapel, Louisa. Burial will be in Robertson Cemetery, Fort Gay.
