"OBIT. BIG SANDY NEWS. Wednesday, November 18, 1998. FRED SMITH, JR. 1933-1998. Fred Smith, Jr., 65, of Fort Gay died Friday, November 13. Mr. Smith was born May 7, 1933, in Wayne County, a son of Maggie Walker Smith and the late Fred Smith Sr. He was a retired custodian for the Wayne County School system. Additional survivors include his wife, Wanda Robertson Smith of Fort Gay; one son, Zandell Smith of Fort Gay; one daughter, Loretta Smith of Fort Gay; two brothers, Robert Smith of Louisa and Howard Smith of Webb; and five sisters, Anna Mae Bowens of Fort Gay, Betty June Hale of Louisa, Lucille Rhodes of Dunbar, Beulah May York of Huntington and Ruby Sabo of Cleveland, Ohio. Funeral services were conducted Tuesday, November 17, in Young Funeral Home Chapel. Burial was in the Smith family cemetery at Fort Gay. Young Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements." Beverly L.
