I am trying to collect records and connecting documentation on the following ancestors of mine: Joel BARBOUR, b. 6/27/1827 in Cabell Co., VA, d. ? in ? (probably Huntington, WV, which is where his grandson, my grandfather, was born) Pleasant Alfred ADKINS, b. 9/24/1835 in OH, d. 5/6/1926 in Huntington, WV Jacob SULLIVAN, b. 9/1/1829 in Pike Co., KY, d. 1914 in Wayne Co., WV Jesse O. BLANKENSHIP, b. 4/9/1840 in Cabell Co., VA, d. 1/16/1903 in ? I am primarily, at this time, trying to determine the Civil War records of these men and to collect the documentation necessary to connect them to me. The only one whose record I know (although I have no records, just got his name from several sources, including Scott Cole's book on the 34th Battalion Virginia Cavalry) is Jesse O. BLANKENSHIP, who served in the 34th VA Cavalry. I am willing to pay for someone to collect/copy the records, as I will not be able to travel out to WV (at least not that far away) this year. I have more information on these people (ancestry, siblings, children, etc.), just have been neglectful in getting documentation (much of what I have was obtained from my aunt, grandmother and helpful distant cousins who have found what I posted on Rootsweb). Another interesting Civil War connection is that Jesse BLANKENSHIP's wife was Eliza Ellen BLANKENSHIP (they were first cousins) and her half-sister, Georgia, married a V. A. WITCHER in 1874. Now, Vincent Addison WITCHER was the commander of the 34th VA Cavalry and his wife (first wife?) died in 1870 (source: Cole's book). Is this V. A. WITCHER the same V. A. WITCHER? Col. WITCHER was 35 in 1874 (my half gggreat aunt was only 14). Many other Wayne and Cabell County names appear among the collateral lines of my family. These include: CROCKETT, ELKINS, WARD, WATTS and others. If you have any information on these lines or know someone who does research (record collection/copying) in Wayne and Cabell Counties for pay, I would really appreciate it.
