I know Wes did some transcriptions of the Wood County Census for 1810-20. Has he many of these kinds of things for Upshur? Thanks, Pat Snyder
Hi, I joined the Upshur list to try to chase down some Kings - specifically a Lawrence b. c. 1770 m. c. 1790 to Jane. I think he was a brother of Stephen, and I would like to think they were the sons of Cornelius King who was one of the "first settlers of Jackson". Also, a Joshua King who married in Monongalia to Eliz. Walcott (I've seen some Walcotes, etc.). I think Joshua would have also been born about 1770 - probably a little earlier. I can't say they are from Ushur, but I do know you have some later Kings who had a Cornelius and Lawrence in a Joshua King's family. The Lawrence I am trying to track first turns up in Wood with Stephen in the 1810 & 20 Census, along with a stray James who doesn't stay around. Stephen stayed in Wood and has a well-defined family there. Lawrence moved to Ohio and I think his younger sons were Joshua, James and Robert (in reverse order). All of this I cannot prove. Lawrence had three older daughters who probably married in Wood just before he went to Ohio. The time was right, but I have no records of them. It is the combination of Lawrence, Cornelius and Joshua in Upshur that fascinates me. Can any tell me of the 1770-1810 bunch? Many thanks Pat Snyder
I think this message was meant for someone else. I'm on the Upshur mailing list, but these are not my names. Dear Listers, BUHS needs more representation at this site which is a collection of all highschools nationally and their associated alumni. Each person can register and view their particular graduating class and update information on your own personal profile. I found this while looking for cousins in other states. http://www.highschoolalumni.com/ Enjoy! Chris Smith
Think this Gertrude Tenney was b 10/1879 and m 1895. However, there is another Gertrude Tenney b 10/7/1880 who married a Bill Carpenter. She was daughter of Isaac Washington Tenney, whose line goes to New England. Marv. I am trying to link the above individuals into my Tenney line as I suspect that they are descendants of James & Thankful Tenney. The following information was obtained from the Clarksburg Exponent-Telegram's obituaries on 27 Jul 1999 for children of these individuals. Any information about Stacie & Gertrude would be greatly appreciated, especially the names of their parents and grandparents. Thank you for your help! Stacie Tenney Smith, married to Harvey Lowe Smith, both now deceased. Stacie and Harvey's daughter, Velma Godfrey, of Adrian died 26 Jul 1999 at age 69. Velma is survived by two brothers, Denzil Smith & Doyle Smith and a step-daughter, Hilda Tenney, among others. Gertrude Tenney Carpenter, married to Eli Carpenter. Gertrude & Eli's son Hoy Carpenter of Ellamore died 26 Jul 1999 at age 94. Two of Hoy's 11 siblings survive him, Sollaman Carpenter & Elva Lloyd of Hemlock. Of course, my condolences are extended to the friends and family of Hoy & Velma. Vicki Smith kbruce@accesstoledo.com
There is a woman working on a complete Tenney ancestry that goes back to New England. If you aren't aware of her, I'll get her name for you. Also, the James Tenney (I'm not sure of years) cabin is being restored near Tallmansville.
