Hope it's of interest to someone. Pat Pulasky ------------------------------------------ VINCENT SANDY Born ca 1800 in Virginia (WV?) Son of Vincent and Mila (Malinda?) Sandy (Related to Rockingham Sandy Family?) Died 9th August, 1853, Tyler County, WV Married Mary Beaty 1st January, 1828 in Marion County, WV (which was then Monongalia County, VA) Mary was born either 1809 or 18th March, 1812 in Marion County, (If 1812, was a twin to brother Alexander) Daughter of Alexander and Mary Carter Beaty of Mannington, WV Mary Sandy died 19th May, 1885 in Tyler County, WV Children (From 1850 Tyler County Census) Dau....Jane (Knight), age 21 Son....William, age 18 Dau....Mary, age 17 Son....James, age 15 Dau....Sarah (Kinney), age 10 Dau....Matilda or Malinda (Castlow), age 8 Son....John, age 5 Dau....Susan, age 3 NOTES: In the 1810 Harrison County, VA/WV census, a Vincent Alexander was listed. He died in Harrison County, ca 1817. His wife signed her name as Malinda Sandy, so the Alexander surname was most likely an error. This was probably the family of Vincent, ca 1800. Vincent (ca 1800) was sometimes referred to as Vincent A. Sandy, so perhaps the middle initial "A" was for Alexander. From History of Tyler County, West Virginia to 1984: "Vincent W. Sandy was born in 1800, his wife Mary, 1809. They owned 100 acres on McElroy Branch, later named Sandy's Run. Vincent died in 1853 and Mary in 1885. Their children were Joseph, Sarah, George, James and William (according to census data, there were also Jane, Mary, Matilda, John and Susan.)....Their son, William and wife, Rebecca, built a log house of quite large dimensions for those days. A school house was built by the Sandys at a point where Doddridge County joined Tyler County and a small stream emptied into Sandy's Run, bordered by the road which was the shortest route leading to West Union and the railroad, a matter of eight miles. A family cemetery was on the hill above the school. The acreage grew to 500, and reached into Doddridge County." From Sims Index of WV Land Grants: "In 1841, 90 acres on McElroy Fork were granted to Vincent Sandy; In 1846, 200 acres on Middle Island Creek were granted to Vincent A. Sandy." In Tyler County, a Thomas Sandy also showed up in later census. Looks as though Thomas might be a brother or a cousin to Vincent. Were one, or both, born in Marion County? Both Thomas and Vincent had a son, John, born in 1845. ----------------------------------------------------
