    3. JAMES LONG - BORN1790 M. (1) MARY (FRANCES) BURGE (2) Ruth Gillon 14 Nov 1847 Tyler Co., VA TYLER COUNTY LAND RECORDS 1826 - James Long bought 200 Acres on Sugar Creek from Abraham Birckhead . 1830 - James and Mary Long sold 81A - Rush Fork of Sugar Creek to David Hannon. 1836 - David Hannon sold 81A Rush Fork to John Long (son of David Long-tw) 1841 - John Long sold 81A Sugar Creek to James Long (no wife mentioned-tw). 1842-3 - James Long and Mary sold 81A Rush Run to John Long. 1847 - James Long (no wife) sold 119A Rush Fork to Thomas Ewal. This means James Long sold all 200 Acres on Rush Fork. His next land transaction was 1849 - James Long bought 49-1/2 Acres on Big Run from Silas Waters. This was on Indian Creek near Meeker. (Silas Waters aged 28 lived next door to James in 1850 census. In 1840 census there was a JAMES WATERS with a large family. Perhaps Silas was brother of Waters below in 1850) I think these Waters were children of Ruth Gillon who m 1st Archible Waters and 2nd James Long. TYLER COUNTY, VA 1820 CENSUS - NO LONGS 1830 CENSUS - DON'T HAVE but Lee Eddy looked up at Museum Library JAMES LONG - 2 males 5 and under 2 males 10-15 1 male 40-50 2 females 5-10 1 female 15-20 1 female 40-50 1840 CENSUS - #159 JAMES LONG 01201001 - 0002001 (4 SONS - 2 DAUGHTERS) (George was married and gone) 1850 CENSUS - #24 - JAMES LONG 60 PA FARMER RUTH 56 PA JEREMIAH 23 VA AND....ELIJAH WATERS 22 PA EMELINE 18 PA NANCY 16 PA (EMELINE WATERS THAT YEAR (1850) MARRIED JEREMIAH LONG. Source: Flo Montgomery - The family of James Long lived at Wick. It was Mr. Long of Wick who placed on OWL'S HEAD RIDGE a monument for his horse and dog when they died. Mr. Stevens who cut our timber about 1989 said he owns Owl's Head but he never found any mounument Location of Rush Fork-From Wick-Turn on road by John Wells house, go past old schoolhouse, John & Elizabeth Gorrell's farm on left and old Garrison Farm on right. Garrisons farm was 174 acres bought 1862 from Eugenius Newbrough who I believe bought it from Long's. I think this is the original JAMES LONG farm. TYLER CO. - SETTLEMENT OF ESTATE - BOOK 3-A - PAGE 74-75 - March, 1857. Elijah Waters - Administrator of RUTH LONG, DECEASED. Appraisers - George Kester and William Baker List of Notes & Accounts of the Estate of Ruth Long, deceased. - Jeremiah Long $175.00 Apr 1, 1856 - Mathias E. Kester $116.63 March 11, 1856 - Joshus Baker. Didn't copy all. I presume James Long, husband of Ruth, had already died. Ruth would have been about 53 years old when she married James. These Waters children could have been hers by a previous marriage. I found in the Long Cemetery the following: Ruth Waters, wife of Archible - Died May 9, 1856 - 59 Yrs. I think this is Ruth the second wife of James Long. Tombstone would make her born 1797. Census age makes her born 1794. Hope this helps Lyle. Regards. Thelma M. West
