    1. POOR HOUSE and Other PROBLEMS
    2. Linda, Thanks for your candid reply. When I was growing up I remember hearing people talk about one of our family members who died at Weston. He was taken there because no one else would accept people with advanced tuberculosis. There was a new baby and three other children in the house to be considered. He was in his late 30's. I have always wanted to see if there are records available for early 1900 patients. It must have been heartbreaking to send your family to such horrible facilities. Thanks, Lenore ______________________________ --------------------

    2. Wiley, I can't stop thinking about the "St Mary's Birthday Celebration" you emailed about. Why don't you share the details with our email group? Suddenly I find myself trying to rearrange our trips to Ohio, so we can stop by for some of the festivities. Lenore ______________________________ --------------------

    1. Elizabeth JONES
    2. Christina, Elizabeth Jones is definitely one of my family names and possibly connected to Lewis Jones in some way. You mentioned an appraisment dated 1 Sep 1818 as a source for Elizabeth. Is it possible that "Early West VA Wills" Vol 1 is available Online? If not, where did you find this publication? Thanks, Lenore

    3. I think Lynn meant to post this to the Tyler list... -----Original Message----- From: Uk337@aol.com [mailto:Uk337@aol.com] Sent: Monday, April 12, 1999 3:30 PM To: WVWETZEL-L@rootsweb.com Subject: [WVWETZEL-L] Thanks Thanks Christina, I had a terrible time getting on this list. It won't take it unless I manually type in the address. OK, the first question I had was if anyone had a reading on the Friendly Cemetery. I know I have 2 great uncles there. My family moved around from Monroe Co. Ohio to Tyler Co. and back to Washington Co. My Great grandfather Alonzo Stewart brought his family to Friendly. He was a blacksmith. His oldest son Charles died there leaving a widow Minnie and a child that we have all lost track of. He made a side trip to OK to seek his fortune and that didn't work out. So he ended up in New Matamoras, Ohio owning a general store. His son Okey Stewart and his wife died in Friendly. They had a daughter Opal who married a Brewer and they had a son Carrol who we have also lost track of. I would appreciate any help with this family. Also Mr. Underwood. Could some of your family have lived in Monroe Co. Ohio. I have been searching for the family of Mordecai Underwood b. 1810 in PA. His wife was Deborah Blazer and they had John, Amy, Sarah, George, Susan and Martha, Lynn ______________________________

    1. New to List
    2. Faith A. Van Schaik
    3. Hi, My name is Faith A. Van Schaik. I am searching the following names in WV. Beaty, Beatty, Blair, King, Mathews, and Pethtel. My Tyler family is Beaty/Beatty. My brick wall is with my gg-grandfather Lindsey Beaty and gg-grandmother Florence E. (maiden name unknown at this time). Lindsey was born in Tyler Co. as were three of his children: Eli W. Beaty, born 1878, William W. Beaty, born 1880 and Rosy M. Beaty, born Sept. 1882 who died at 3mos of age. The last documentation I have on the family is the death certificate of Rosey who passed away in Dec. of 1882. I live in NJ and only has access to the NARA in Philadelphia PA. According to the 1880 Census Lindsey, Florence and Eli W. Beaty were residing in Tyler Co. However in the 1900 Census they are not to be found. In the 1910 census Eli W. Beaty in living in Tyler Co with his wife Anna and two of their children and William W. Beaty (my g-grandfather) living in Hancock Co. They were not listed in Hancock Co. in the 1900 Census as well. If anyone can help me find where they went or what happened I would appreciate it. Thanks, Faith A. Van Schaik

    1. New Member Looking for Underwoods
    2. My name is Frank Underwood and I am a new member of the list. I am trying to track my ancestors back through Tyler County. My grandfather was Harvey Underwood, the brother of Silas Underwood. According to members of the Underwood list, it seems his father was Joseph and his grandfather was Wells Underwood. Based on the dates I have seen in the census records and some of the Civil war service records, I suspect that I have the wrong Wells Underwood or he really wasn't my gg grandfather. When I was young I can remember my parents talking about many relatives in Sistersville and I am hoping to learn more about them and about my anscestors. My father was Frank Basil Underwood and as I said, my grandfather was Harvey Underwood who moved to Pittsburgh sometime in the early 1900s. I will be glad to share any information on Harveys' family and particularly on Franks family.

    3. Jean, do you know anything abt Alexander Williamson? My ancestor owed him money in 1843. An Alexander Williamson had an ordinary in 1801 in Ohio Co. so if the same guy her was around for awhile. I doubt he was a relative, but I grasp at straws. 3. Glad to see this list. My brick wall is the Bullman family. I am back to John Bullman who married Clarissa Ankrum, dgt. of Aaron, in 1811. He fought in the War of 1812. In 1850 he said he was born in New Jersey on the census. There are no family traditions as to why he came to Tyler as a young unmarried man. He was educated and accumulated a lot of land in the Wick area. I have most of the family from John to present, need to find where he came from. Also researching Wagner, Musser, Williamson, and Ankrums. Jean

Finding them in the 1870 census - Booth Creek twp, Taylor co. shows they had a dau. Arra b. about 1866. Were there more children? Thank you, Kathleen Rizer

    1. Welcome!
    2. Christina Hunt
    3. My name is Christina Hunt. I want to welcome everyone who has joined this brand new list. If anyone has a problem with their mail or anything I might help with, please let me know. I hope you will all jump right in with your interests so that we know who we are working on. My own interest in Tyler comes from having two brick walls there. I have an Amey Covalt b. 1816 in VA. She was married to William Henry Fairfax and living in Tyler County in 1840. She seems most likely to belong to Robert Covalt, but no one seems to have heard of her. Wm. H. Fairfax, is the other wall. All I know is he was there in 1840. He voted at Fishing Creek bottom in the 1840 election. Looking forward to seeing you are researching... Regards, Christina
