Thelma, I have a citation for Oliver's marriage to Sarah Wells in 1899. I don't have a copy of the biography of John W. Garrison, but if my memory serves me, he was unrelated (If I'm wrong, please correct me). There was another clan of Garrisons in Tyler County that had Virginian origins; my Garrisons were Pennsylvanian. Was the Garrison biography by Earl Garrison fairly recent? I believe the Denver Library has a copy of a 1984 Tyler Co. history, with biographies of the local families. If this is the case, I have access to the source. My g-g-g grandfather David Garrison moved to the Meade Dist. in Tyler Co. in 1860, and lived there until his death in 1878. He was buried in the Wick Methodist Church Cemetery with his wife, Catharine Engle (daughter of Peter Engle, and member of the large clan of Tyler Co. Engles). His son John D. Garrison (husband of Drusilla Cornell) died in Tyler Co. in 1879; son Daniel died in Ritchie Co. in 1892; son David (husband of Hannah Bullman) died in Ritchie Co. date unknown; son Irad (husband of Sarah Ellen Ash) died in Tyler Co. in 1918; son Alpheus died in Monongalia Co., WV in 1917; daughter Narcissa married Daniel Varner; daughter Margaret died young; daughter Elizabeth married Andrew Ankrom, died 1871; daughter Salina Ann died young. I read early issues of the Tyler Co. Star, and was unable to find an obituary for David Garrison. I'd like to find good local sources of information, and network with anybody interested in these families. Thanks, Brian Core Brian D. Core P.O. Rootsweb is unveiling a new centralized system for finding surname information. If you haven't yet seen the announcement - here it is. NEWS AND NOTES AT ROOTSWEB ROOTSWEB PUTS IT TOGETHER. Have you ever wished you could look up *everything* at RootsWeb that relates to a particular surname? Now you can! Click on the new option SURNAME RESOURCES at RootsWeb's main page <http://www.rootsweb.com/> or go directly to: <http://resources.rootsweb.com/surnames/>. Click on the letter of the alphabet for the surname of interest, and then select it from the list that appears. This will take you to a "surname resource cluster," where you can search for your surname in numerous databases. For example, using BANKSTON you would find: <http://resources.rootsweb.com/surnames/b/a/BANKSTON/>, where you could search "B" WEB SITES, the OBITUARY DAILY TIMES, or: o The ROOTSWEB SURNAME LIST (RSL). RSL search options are by surname, Soundex, or Metaphone (the latter two are "sounds- like" matches). You can search for updates from the past two months, last month, last week, or for any mention. o TRANSCRIPTION PROJECTS. You might check to see if your immigrant ancestors' names are listed at the Immigrant Ship Transcribers Guild (ISTG). o PRIMARY RECORDS AT ROOTSWEB (from USGenWeb Archives and RootsWeb Searchable Databases). o GENERAL LINKS AND SEARCH ENGINES. There are three options. o ROOTSLINK link registry. You can add a new link also. o SEEKER search engine, which returns surname matches from Web pages -- there is much "hidden genealogy" that this search will help you find. o SURNAME HELPER search engine finds queries and surname registrations posted at various genealogically-related sites on the Web, with participating sites including many USGenWeb and WorldGenWeb sites. All GenConnect boards are indexed in Surname Helper. o MAILING LISTS. Descriptions of lists that relate to this surname, subscription instructions, and links to the archives so you can search or browse past postings. o GENCONNECT. Click on GLOBAL SURNAME SEARCH to find queries that mention the surname of interest that are posted in connection with any county, state, or country in the world. Or click an icon for one of the seven automated boards that together make up a "suite" of boards available for surnames and localities (Queries, Bible records, Biographies, Deeds, Obituaries, Pensions, and Wills). RootsWeb hopes that putting these links under one SURNAME RESOURCES roof will help everyone find all the buried treasure.

It's been over a week since I sent my message about my grandmother, Martha Minerva Bailey. She was born in Tyler in May 1871 and married Eli Collins in Ritchie Co. Rumors suggest that she may have been Cherokee. Maybe I didn't give enough information or maybe she doesn't exist. Can someone help me find info on her? She is my brick wall. Kathy
Ninah, No, I didn't have that info. Thank you so much!!!!!! I will let you know what I find. A ray of hope at last. Linda http://homepages.go.com/~lin92/index.html ^O^~~ c.
Linda, you prob have this but here goes anyway... >From a VA marriages database: JARRED RUBLE E. GOLDMAN 08 January 1845 Wood Co. I would guess that E. Goldman was a sister? Maybe if you try to follow the Ruble family forward you might find a clue in their family. A name repeated in your family or something. I look at siblings when I can't find anything in my own lines. Good luck! A few new folks have joined the list in the last couple of weeks. We would like to welcome all newcomers and invite you to post your Tyler County interests. If I can be of any help with your subscription or posting let me know. Regards, Christina Ninah@ix.netcom.com
Hi Christina, I guess my #1 right now is my gg-grandfather Lindsey C. Beaty. What I am hoping to find is more information on him. My Aunt, his granddaughter, said that her father never ever spoke about him. She doesn't know anything about her grandfather, except for the fact that he died when her father was 15 years old. She believes that he may have died in Hancock Co. The family is listed in the 1880 Census in Tyler Co. But I can't find where they went in 1900? Then William Beaty, Lindsay's son, is living with his family in 1910 in Hancock Co. I am hoping to visit this summer in Hancock Co. to hopefully back step and see what happened to them. I haven't checked the other counties in 1900 except for Tyler and Hancock Co. I don't have a soundex that is accurate for 1900. The 1900 Soundex in Philadelphia Archives only listed about 3 Beatty families, so I have to search page by page for them. It gets frustrating sometimes when your waiting for the next puzzle piece but exciting as well when you find it. Thanks for your shared experience to help keep us all looking. Faith A. Van Schaik
Hello. I thought I would pose a question. I have a running ranking system for my most wanted ancestor. Most important to me is #1. I did find my long held #1 a few years ago. I had a grandfather who died at 24 right before my mother was born. Every avenue failed to turn up any new clues. I thought he was hopeless, but an obit I hadn't tried mentioned his siblings and where they had come to the funeral from. I was in business. Within months I found he had several ancestors that went back several generations. Now Wm H. Fairax of, yes, Tyler County is my #1 most wanted. Anyone else have a most wanted? Regards, Christina
Kathy, You might try emailing Sean Collins. He wrote some time ago and I remembered the name Eli which I did not have in my Collins line from Lewis Co WV. Sean states that his Gr-Grandfather was Eli Collins who was married to Martha Minerva Bailey. His(Sean's) Gr-Gr-Grandfather was Daniel Collins who married Frances Ann Stanley. Sean's 3rd Gr-Grandfather was Manley Collins, his wife was Mary Elliot. His email address is: sean.debbie@mci2000.com Hope he can help, and perhaps may be interested in participating in our Tyler email group. Lenore
I am looking for info on my great-grandmother, Martha Minerva Bailey b May 1871. She married Eli Collins in Ritchie Co. WV. Does anyone have any info on her? Thank you for this opportunity to gain more info on my ancestors. Kathy
Lynn: There's a wonderful Tyler County rootsweb site that lists surnames, queries, etc; don't forget to check the Tyler cemetery link that's listed at this site, also. See: http://www.rootsweb.com/~wvtyler/ Good luck in your search. Does anyone know about a Tyler County surname database. I went to Family Treemaker surname list and it listed my great grandfather as being in the Tyler Co. surname database. Since I'm not connected through my Family Treemaker program it wouldn't let me get to the address. Lynn
Susie, That is okay about the Slater's. I know exactly what you mean. I feel bad when I can't help someone also. Slater is really the only one of your names that I can connect to, thanks for the offer. Pat, do you have the parents of Thomas Slater? That would help both Susie and I. Thanks, Connie
Connie, No, I can't go back past Thomas Slater. Wish I could. Pat has more on this family than I do, I'm sure. I have more on the Moores, Whites, Covalts, Whitsetts, Rice, and McCrays. I'll be glad to share what I do have. FYI, Cornerstone Genealogy Society in Waynesburg, Greene Co., PA has "Ten Mile" by Leckey for sale according to several sources. You just had to pick the only family I can't go back any more generations! My luck is running true to form. Let me know if you want what I have. Susie
Good morning again. I sent an email off to the Rootweb people. Then I looked at the Threaded archives to see if the Computer worm has been discussed. I learned that listowners are being hit, but not the lists themselves. Rootweb has a patch in place which is supposed to prevent that. We are getting the worm through the request address. Just wanted you all to know. Obviously, it is out there still though, so beware of any msg that contains that Happy99.exe file. Regards, Christina
I have just received a request showing a new subscription to this list followed from the same person by a message to me which had the Happy99.exe attachment. This attachment is known to be a computer worm. If you get any msg from me or anyone on the list with this attachment delete the msg and DON'T OPEN he attached file. I have unsubscribed the person who sent it for the moment until I can get advice from Rootsweb. Sorry. I think my deleting it will have kept it from getting a look at my addresses. Regards, Christina Please let me know if any of you receive this file from anyone.
