Hi all: Thaught you would get a kick out of an article I found in The Tyler Co. Star, Jan 6, 1888. from SHIRLEY: "The boys who get on a high will please pardon us for neglecting to mention their daring deeds. Hereafter any one who loses his equilibrium will be noted.." S.N.
Looking for inf on Harrison FORRESTER b: jan 1840 died April 1914 buried in Evans Cemetery Paden City Tyler Co. WV. He was in service 1862-1865 and was listed as residing in Middlebourne WV. I have a picture I believe is Harrison Looking for siblings. Parents are John and Barbary ? Any inf would be appreciated. Thanks in advance Donna
I really need a census lookup please from this county for the year 1840. If you have access to these records, please email me. Thank you so much, Adrianne kee46@msn.com
Bill, I haven't the foggiest idea as to where Lewis Jones may have moved during the 1860 to 1880 time period. Another lister says he is not in the Tyler Co death records. My first guess would have been Pleasants because two, possible three, sons that I know of moved to Pleasants. Simeon Simpson "Simmy" Jones, Greenberry Jones and probably Daniel Jones. Checking the Online Pleasants County Birth Records 1876 JONES, William S. 12/3/1876 Lewis & E.A. Jones Lewis Jones, Father This would surely be the son of Lewis Jones...Lewis Jones b: ca1849. We still do not know when first wife Rebecca Haines died and when Lewis married Elizabeth Ankrom. Here's a list of the children of Lewis Jones and Rebecca Haines...and possibly some belong to Lewis Jones and Elizabeth Ankrom. Daniel b: abt 1831 Simeon Simpson b: 1833 Greenberry b: ca 1836 Margaret b: ca 1840 Morton b: ca 1844 Lucy Ann b: ca 1846 Lewis b: ca 1849 Calvin b: ca 1850 Will re-check your website for more clues. It takes a long time to get through all of it. I keep picking up new things. Hopefully, some of our listers may have more information, Thanks for all your time, Lenore

I found this info on one of my lists today. I thought it was useful information for working with the IGI (International Genealogical Index). Joyce, Can't wait to find out about Sabra HART JONES. Never heard mention of her. Her name is certainly unique. I am so glad to have your exact information on the marriage of Lewis Jones and Rebecca Haines. Do you know anything about the death of Rebecca and where she is burried? Look forward to hearing, Thanks so much, Lenore Hi! Lenore, Lewis Jones and Rebecca Haines(Hanes) were married August 24, 1824 Tyler County (W)Va. I just seen your message on the Tyler County mailing list. Give me time and I will search my books and see what I might be able to come up with. My great grandfather, John F. Hart, was a brother to Sabra Hart Jones. Thanks! Joyce joyced@speed1.net
I am looking for a family of Kirby's,is there a Nancy or James Abram KIRBY/KERBY listed in this census? I know that William & Peter Kirby are there but I need to see if Nancy or James is there. Nancy is listed as having filed a land grant in 1839 on fish creek. Also if he is listed in any other of the census records. I'm positive he is the father of Mary WHITE who married my William KIRBY JR.November 26, 1827, she died abt. 1841-1842. White, Rezin State : VA County : Tyler Co. Year : 1840 Page # : 025 Additional source information : (NOW WV) Thanks so much, Adrianne
Lenore, the only marriage listed is to Rebecca Haines (23 Aug 1824). It mentions that he married an Elizabeth per the 1850 census. Sorry, no date for that one. I am not aware of any Tyler Co. marriages online. There is a book called: MARRIAGE RECORDS OF SQUIRES ISAAC AND JOSEPH F. MAYES. compiled by Helen L. Harriss, Elizabeth J. Wall and Betty Treat Petrich.258 pp., softbound. Pittsburgh, PA. 1978. I was able to get it through interlibrary loan last year. Alas the marriage I wanted wasn't there. Apparently, this location (SW PA) was the Gretna Green for this area and people came from OH and WV to get married because it was easy. It is a possibility. I wish I had a copy just for lookups. The copy I got came from a PA library. Christina, Good to hear! I do need some help on marriage look-ups. Lewis Jones and Rebecca Haines are the parents of my 2nd Gr-Grandfather..Simeon Simpson Jones b: 1833 in Tyler Co. His mother, Rebecca Haines must have died rather young. Lewis married Elizabeth Ankron. Can you find a second marriage after 1840-50? Are there death records online for Tyler Co? Thanks much, Lenore
Lenore, thank you for sharing your success! It is a good idea to post again every few months. I see our subscriptions and they have been steadily increasing, so there are new people and they need to see activity so they will join in. Also, as I have mentioned, the new roots archiver will show your interests to a wider group who are just name searching. I encourage everyone to keep us up to date on any clues you may be following. BTW, I have a copy of the marriage index for Tyler County. I imagine most of you have used it as the LDS has it, but will be glad to check on a marriage for you. I have your 3rd gr. grandparents in my genealogy program (entered from 15 years of research on paper). If you go to my Gedcom file converted to web pages you will find in the index, Lewis Jones and Greenberry Jones and Rebecca Haines (but listed as Rebecca Hanes - family used both spellings). Also there are a lot of Gorrells listed. The link to the Gedcom file is at http://pages.prodigy.net/billjohns/Gedcom/index.htm I'd be interested in adding your line of descent to what I have and exchanging information. -- Bill Johns, part-time library staff volunteer and member of Licking County (Ohio) Genealogical Society, Chapter of the Ohio Genealogical Society. Thanks for the list of Tyler County films- last time I went to the LDS FHC Library in Salt Lake City, I made a similar list so I could spend my time grabbing film off of the shelf instead of waiting in line for a computer. I am changing over this month to "ATT" rather than "Infinet". Our homepage in on ATT. Please change to: dbbuck@worldnet.att.net. That is where I will be. I have a ton of places that I have to change addresses, on my other web sites. I'm doing this thinking I'll have more access to email and the web as we travel and I'll be able to keep up my Tyler County pages. The last three week vacation cost me almost $300 in phone bills when I got home. I may end up on juno at that rate, but I need the graphics.
