    2. Hi Lyle, Though it hasn't been proven it's long been thought by myself and other Knight researchers that Bailey Knight's parents were Peter Knight Sr. and his wife Rachel Abbot of Stafford County, VA. Their son Peter Jr., a Revolutionary War vet, also came to the Harrison (later Taylor) county area in the early 19th century. Bailey has connection to the both Peters - I believe he was shown as a member of the household of Peter Sr. in Stafford Co. (don't remember the year - late 18th century) when Peter paid a tax on his behalf, and he was a witness to some legal proceeding regarding Peter Jr. in Harrison County. I have to get into my Knight files (now there's a task) to be more specific. Peter Sr. was the son of Christopher and Elizabeth Knight of Stafford County. It's thought this family is descended from the 17th century Capt. Peter Knight of Westmoreland county, who was a large landowner and member of the House of Burgesses, but again, this is unproven. The same given names (Peter, Leonard, Ephraim, etc.) appear among Stafford County Knights as appeared among the known members of Captain Peter's family however. I think Bailey Knight may have been named for Bailey Washington of Stafford County, who was George Washington's 2nd cousin and a neighbor and landlord to Peter Knight Sr. Hope this helps. Len Kling
