Hello, I am new to the list and am trying to locate any information about a Mrs. Elizabeth Shingleton. She was listed as a half-sister to my ggrandmother, Ida Bell (Bircher) Ruckman, in my ggrandmother's obituary. The only information I have is her name and that she was living in Grafton at the time of Ida Bell's death in 1954. If anyone knows anything about this Shingleton family, I would really be happy to hear from them. Thank you!, Becky Boggs
Jim, I I hope you are not being inundated as a result of your kind offer to do look ups. When you have time, I would appreciate it if you could let me know if you find any information on the surnames Annon, Glasock and Webb. Thank you. I have "A History of Taylor County", Brinkman's "American Wars and Taylor County", as well as extensive dateabases on the following Taylor County Families: Albert and Usher Bayly (Bailey) families Thornsberry Bailey Joseph Bailey James and Samuel M Rogers families John L and William Stevens families Samuel Gandy William Shields Samuel and Ebeneezer Kelley families Whitehair (All) Keener (All) I will be glad to assist with look-ups or help you break your brick wall. Perhaps you can help me as well. Jim Simon
Hello, I just subscribed to this web address and decided to put a message out on it. I am a fifth generation Shaw born in Taylor county, although I never lived in any part of Taylor county. I was born in Grafton. I usually visit the area once a year in the spring to do research. I do not have any living relative in the area either. Anyone that has ties to the Shaw or Peer families please respond. Thanks P.T. Shaw
Hi....does anyone on this list have access to a Taylor County census, 1900, 1910, or 1920? I am looking to confirm the whereabouts of my great-grandparents, Oliver Bland and his spouse, Sarah Ann. They are both buried in a cemetery in Simpson, and I understand their family farm in Simpson was inherited by relatives with the surname of Booth. I am also in need of where they originated. Their children were: Irena, Henrietta, William, Albert, and Clarence (these are all that I know of for sure). Thanks very much. Susan Bland Drake Waverly, WV
Seeking information on Joshua H. JOHNSON, ca 1820-1864, or wife, Elizabeth KEENER ca 1827-ca 1910 who later married Josiah JONES? JOHNSON reportedly died in the Civil War. Does anyone know in what unit he served, or on which side he fought ?
Hello All, I am new to this list and I am looking names and places. New information on my research suggests there was a Mr. BONAFIELD that ran a grocery store in Grafton about 1900-1904. His wife may have been Sarah BAKER. There are other family members of the BAKER, JEFFERY, ASBURY family buried in Bluemont Cemetery. Who would I get in touch with to find out more about this? Can anyone help me on this lead. Happy Thanksgiving, Bev Rogers
grgrGrandfather, Thomas Male and Julianne Newman Male raised their family in Taylor Co. He died 19 May 1876 and Julianne died 1 Jan 1870 in Taylor Co. It is said that Thomas was a member of the Dunkard Brethern there. Where can I verify this? Also, I would like to know which cemetery they are buried in. Thanks so much. ~Florence~
When did these people die? John W. Norris b. about 1806 and his wife Malinda Springer b. 18 April 1821. They married in Monongalia Co., and lived in Taylor Co., W. Vir. Their dau. was Virginia b. about 1839. What happened to her? Thank you, Kathleen Rizer
Recently I received this information from another mail list. It is worth checking out! Rather concerning. Best Wishes! Jan Hornick [Searching Harr, Merrifield, Reed, Carpenter, Booth, Thomas, Tucker, etc. surnames] "Members of the list may care to visit this site for an interesting bunch of thoughts on what may happen to your records in the future. Hi Everyone, I am new to this list and have some questions. Have the cemetery listings for Taylor Co. been copied? I am primarily interested in the Simpson and Flemington areas. How far back does the local newspaper go and have birth, death, or marriage notices been indexed for any of that time. I have the address to the library, but do they have a genealogy collection? Can they do any research by mail? What kind of sources do they have? Is it better to contact the courthouse for vital records, or are any of them at the library? I guess that is enough for a first go-round. Thanks for your help. Lauren Canton, OH
Today I uploaded a Gedcom for five generations of descendants of my 4th great grandparents, John Harr and Elizabeth Merrifield. There are over 1000 descendants in a searchable/downloadable database. There are many surnames from the Marion, Taylor, Monongalia and Harrison County areas. Please consider adding your data to this easily accessible source. Many Thanks! Jan Hornick ROOTSWEB'S WORLDCONNECT PROJECT by Robert R. Tillman, CEO <rrti@rootsweb.com> We are proud to announce the BETA TEST of the RootsWeb WorldConnect Project. Now you can upload, edit, delete and download to others your GEDCOMs on RootsWeb. We have developed GEDCOM software that is the most advanced on the Web to provide you with unprecedented control over your posted GEDCOMs. Key features include the ability to: o Upload a GEDCOM file generated by any of the major genealogy software applications WITHOUT first converting it to HTML. o Edit or delete your GEDCOMs as well as change the display or download options at any time. o Link the GEDCOM to your own home page. o Screen or remove information about living individuals from the GEDCOM. o Link Post-Em notes both from the GEDCOM originator and other RootsWeb users by attaching to the record of a particular individual. This capability is similar to the implementation of Post-Ems in RootsWeb's Social Security Death Index. o Link a GEDCOM to other GEDCOMs using Post-Ems. o Allow RootsWeb users to download subsets (portions) of the original GEDCOM starting with a specific person and choosing either ancestors or descendants. o Display GEDCOMs online in highly flexible ways. We think that this display capability is where RootsWeb WorldConnect Project really shines. Unlike with certain other Web sites, you have full control over your GEDCOM. You can change or remove it completely at any time and RootsWeb will never burn it onto a CD-ROM or charge others to access it. Check out this new capability at <http://worldconnect.genealogy.rootsweb.com/cgi-bin/igmuser.cgi>. Search for individuals listed in uploaded GEDCOMs at <http://worldconnect.genealogy.rootsweb.com/cgi-bin/igm.cgi>. Beat the crowds. Upload your GEDCOM now, but please remember that this is a beta test. We will change features of the offering based upon your feedback. You can expect that there will be malfunctions, problems, delays, etc. during this test. We appreciate your cooperation and understanding. Submit your complaints and suggestions for improvements to the RootsWeb GEDCOM Suggestions Board at <http://genconnect.rootsweb.com/genbbs.cgi/gedcom>. You might also want to thank Randy Winch, the author of this wonderful new RootsWeb feature. He has devoted months to this project. Kudos to Randy! * * *

Hello Everyone, Does anyone know how I can find the Steele family Cemetery ? Or the South Point Cemetery ? They are supposed to be in Taylor County but the Library doesn't have a listing for it. I would appreciate any help. Thank You, Brenda Miller
Hi, I have this info on my GGGrandfather. Wonder if you have any info on this organizational unit and data on him. If you do I would appreciate hearing from you and perhaps I will be able to reciprocate with something useful. James Rogers of the WVA 12th Reg.Inf.Vol. He was a private in Co.A. James was from Taylor County and would have been about 33 yrs old at the war's beginning. Thanks, Jim Simon
Fredrich Grant Zinn (son of Martin Luther Zinn) of Brownlow Park was married to Goldie Snider according to family oral history, but the LDS files list her as Gilder Ford of Salem. I had heard she was previously married and don't know if Snider would have been her married name from the earlier marriage or her maiden name. Her marker at Bluemont Cemetery says "Goldie Zinn." Does anybody out there have any insights? Goldie died early in WWII I believe. Thanks, Mary Bach-Loreaux
To Bill Love. I find your Francis Love is listed in 1880 Census of Taylor Co. he was 41 yrs. of age =listed as a Boiler Maker. Also, his birthplace, his parents, his wife,Margaret, and his oldest son at home, (Ritchie L. age 14 yrs.) is listed as being in Scotland. He had 6 children at home. They were Ritchie, John P.- James W. - Margaret C. - Elizabeth R. -and Robert. Hope this helps you. Regards, Barb Swisher-McCarty Jane Lew, WV
I'm new to the list I just switched from Preston Co. I'm trying to find out if my G.G.-grandmother, Margaret Moffat Love b. 1818 in scot. went to live with her son, Francis Love after her husbands death in 1872. I tracked the family to Newburg (1870 census) Ritchie Love, her husband is buried in Scotch Hill cemetery Newburg. Family "lore" says she may have returned to Scotland, but I don't think so. I can't find a death cert. for her there. Francis was her eldest son, he was a machinist for the RR in Grafton. I requested a 1880 census on him, but thought I would see if anyone on the list might have any info on this family. By the way Francis Love was the grandfather of Gilbert Love, the columnist for the Pgh. Press. (any cousins out there) Bill Love (in Fla.)
I am searching for these Virginia/West Virginia surnames from the late 1700's through 1800's: Harr (John b. 1777); Merrifield (Samuel, b. 1720; Richard, b. 1747); Reed (Robert, b. 1802); Carpenter (John, b. Abt 1760); Capt. James Booth (b. 1709); Evan Thomas (b. Abt 1760); Capt. Samuel Stalnaker (b. 1682). I would appreciate any information you may have and would be happy to share my data with you. My e-mail address is GenJan@bewellnet.com Best Wishes! Jan Hornick, Denver (area), Colorado
Only recently have I heard of this practice of doing a family book and including only those who carry on the designated surname. As a woman, that means of the two books I have published - I would not have been included. And of the two I am preparing I would appear in only one of them. Though it is true it is a bit more difficult, sometimes, to work on female lines Brenda is correct that a family includes everyone. To say that a woman, and her descendants, have contributed nothing to a family, or to the development of this county, is very short sighted. Kathleen Rizer in Ohio Archivist for the 15,000 Descendants of Dennis Springer & Ann Prickett ---------- > Subject: Re: Geneaology Research > Date: Monday, August 09, 1999 7:56 PM > > Hello Everyone, > Just thought I would ask everyone a question. Am I the only one that includes all the descendants of a surname ? I have been doing research on my family now for about 3 years, I recently was contacted for help on one of my surnames, the person stated they are making books on the family, but they only include the people with that last name. So, does that go to mean that the descendants of the women do not count as descendants of that surname ? Just think of all the family being > left out. > Brenda
