Sandy ref your addition below: author William Sanders recording of Judith Ballard's tombstone has (1st wife) of Ballard Shumate "died 1892" although he (Sanders) does not name them, he mentions that there are "Several graves of infant children from B.P.Shumate's first marriage to Judith Shumate are located in a row near B.P. Shumate's grave." Additionally there is a younger Ballard P Shumate (1880-1946) and family in the same cemetery, Junior????
