    3. This is my first post on the Summers Co list. My g-grandmother was Martha Ann Cook and she always said she was born in Summers Co even though her DOB was 4-20-1859. She died in Raleigh Co in 1949. Martha's death certificate states that her fathers name was "Geo Cook" and her mothers maiden name was Nancy Lane. Martha was married twice: To Richard Mitchell-date and place of marriage and subsequent divorce unknown. Mitchell was Sheriff of Wyoming Co during this marriage so that was 1880 give or take a year or two. Her second marriage was to Samuel Oliver Mills of Egeria, WV and that marriage took place 2-11-1888 in Raleigh Co. That marriage lasted until the death of Samuel on 3-18-1942. I found a VA birth certificate for Nancy Ann Lane indicating her DOB as 3-13-1830 in Virginia and DOD of 2-08-1924 in Huntington. In addition, I have found a WV death certificate for a brother of Martha Ann Cook. It lists his name as William R. Cook, DOB 3-27-1852 in Hinton WV, FN George W. Cook (born in VA) and MN as Nancy Lane also born in VA. My question is what records might be available for George W. Cook to establish his existence in Summers Co during the lifespan of this family. The mother, Nancy Lane, was born in 1830, I would estimate that George W. Cook was born around 1920-30 and the oldest known child was born in 1852 so the marriage likely was around 1850. Are any lookups available for any of those events and does anyone have further suggestions on researching this family. Thanks in advance for any help or ideas, Wade Halsey

    3. I received some photocopies of a few pages from this book recently. Is the book for sale somewhere or maybe copied on a CD? Also, is the same information duplicated in the book "History of Summers County by James H. Miller" that is for sale by the Summers Co. Library. I am primarily interested in the Cook and Farley history and any photos. Thanks, Wade Halsey

    3. I don't know what pages or information you are inquiring about but I recently came across a lot of FARLEY COOK family info etc in the book CLAY FAMILY SETTLEMENT on the Bluestone River by Wm Sanders and his books are available thru his Princeton office or at the gift shop/bookstore in Pipestem, WV.. [was $12.50] I have not been able to find the AA Hopkins book on line anywhere. Millers book has three pages on FARLEY family. Sanders book takes the WV line back to 1460. ----- Original Message ----- From: "Wade Halsey" <[email protected]> To: <[email protected]> Sent: Monday, August 21, 2006 10:37 PM Subject: [WVSUMMER] Geneological History of the Hopkins-Farley-Cook-Keaton-Brown Families >I received some photocopies of a few pages from this book recently. Thanks for the response. I bought a copy of the Clay Family Settlement at the Tamarack last Sunday. It cost $18 there but my Mom lives nearby. I have Clay ancestry in three different lines, so found the books very useful. The photocopies I referred to came from a document or book that appears to be spiral bound. The pages are numbered 82 to 102 and are primarily about the Cook (or Koch) family. The pages I have seem well written and documented and I would like to obtain an original copy if possible. The author is shown as A.A. Hopkins of Bluefield WV. My other question is whether the information in the Hopkins book is duplicated in James H. Miller's History of Summers Co. which is currently for sale by the Summers County Library. Wade Halsey (from Beckley; relocated to Chillicothe, Ohio)

    3. Miller has a good four pages of THE COOK FAMILY starting 1779 in Germany with Daniel & Rosanna Wilhoit. He later ties Annie Cook b. 1797 to Andrew Farley. Last date that jumps out is a death in 1884. He mentions Drewry Farley and the Cooks also. Sanders in his books A New River Heritage covers a lot these same people as well and has a photo of the Drewry Farley tombstone also. I am not familiar with exactly what HOPKINS 10 pages that you have covered so I can not say if it is the same BUT I find James Millers work quoted a lot in other books, including Sanders. ----- Original Message ----- From: "Wade Halsey" <[email protected]> To: <[email protected]> Sent: Tuesday, August 22, 2006 1:44 PM Subject: Re: [WVSUMMER] Geneological History of the Hopkins-Farley-Cook-Keaton-Brown Families > Vernon and Betty wrote: >> I don't know what pages or information you are inquiring about but I >> recently came across a lot of FARLEY COOK family info etc in the book >> CLAY FAMILY SETTLEMENT on the Bluestone River by Wm Sanders and his books >> are available thru his Princeton office or at the gift shop/bookstore in >> Pipestem, WV..
