    1. [WVSUMMER] Mary E. or Nancy E. Williams who married Justus W. Vass
    2. J.W.
    3. I think iv'e posted on this before but ill give it another shot. Im searching for info on the wife of Justus William "Jess" Vass. He is listed in the 1900 census in Kanawha Co., as William J. Vass with his wife Nancy E. and their children William Franklin, Viola, Delbert, Robert and Lillie. It says Nancy E. was born July 1861. Justus was born in Monroe Co., and probably also spend some time in Summers County. I know from the death records of her son that her maiden name or last name at the time she married Justus was Williams. But i have seen her name listed as Mary as well. On Delbert's marriage record it lists his mother's name as Emma, on his death record it lists her name as Mary, on William Franklin birth record it lists her name as Nancy. So her name was either Nancy or Mary Emma Williams. According to the 1900 census they married in 1888. I know Both her and Justus died before 1910. There are no records available online for Kanawha for kanawha at these times for death, marriage, or birth. If anyone has any idea who she is, I would appreciate the help. I am stuck at a dead end with her. JW _________________________________________________________________ Hotmail® has ever-growing storage! 2. Jay R Smith
    3. My line is from Eli & Elizabeth Garten Ballengee's daughter, Mary Jane Ballengee Tomlinson, of Monroe County, WV. (also Summers Co). Mary Jane married James W. Tomlinson, Monroe Co., WV, 10 10 1867. Near as I can guess, their only child was my maternal grandmother, Oritia Ella Tomlinson. 1870 census has Mary J and Oritia E. living with the maternal grandparents, the Gartens, with no mention of James Tomlinson. Split-up/died ??? Mary J and Oritia disappear until 1892, when Oritia signed on in the marriage book of Summers Co., WV with Joseph B. Blanchard, of Gates Co., NC, 0n 9 29 1892. Never located Mary after 1870. J B Blanchard was my maternal grandfather. I've got all that info. I'd very much like to contact other offspring of the Ballengee line who just might have some info on my folks. Any and ALL help greatly appreciated !! Jay R. Smith Toledo, OHIO

    3. Jay I understand that you are in Ohio BUT if you ever go or know someone near Hinton, WV the library there on Temple St has a micro film series by last names on news articles especially obits in their genealogy section. I have gotten a lot of mine from there. Also I still do not understand what that second series of dates with the question mark in the cemetery book refered to; it can not be from his parents as they werer both born in the 1800s. "1912/1970?" Could these be his correct birth/death dates? Also I have always found the funeral parlors in Hinton are staffed with very friendly people if you can contact them -only two I believe. Did you get into Charleston Gazette obits? They do run Beckly & other section obits as well.
