    3. I wonder if this is the same Abraham COX of Monongalia Co in note below. There is no John COX listed as a son though: http://www.rootsweb.com/~hcpd/norman/COX/ABRAHAM THE DESCENDANTS OF ABRAHAM COX === =========== == ======= === 1.ABRAHAM COX Abraham Cox was born in England January 1, 1752 and died March 24, 1834 in Monongahela County VA. There was an Abraham Cox who immigrated to Monroe County from Monongalia County at about the time that John D. Cox shows up there. I suspect that there is a connection between these two but whether or not this Abraham was John's father - ?? - I really don't know. I have had very little luck in tracking down this line. 3. Also, I am interested in more information on Jacob DUBOIS and Ann DICKINSON. When and where did they marry? Do you have any other children listed for them? The only Jacob DUBOIS I have in my files marr. Elizabeth HILL, a widow, marr. Sep 08, 1812 in Kanawha Co. 3. I think the marriage record of your Sarah Dubois says she is the d/o John. But I would have to look it up now, to be certain, but I have a note in my records saying that. They were married on 1/22/1811 Monroe Co. as you also have it. I have this note in my file, but not sure who sent it to me: John Deboy's will, voucher statements, and deeds all indicating his heirs are as follows with the various spellimgs: Magdline, Mary and Polly Cook widow of William Cook Conrad Deboy/Deboie Elizabeth Showen/Showan Uley/ Julie, and John Cox Sarah Keller Jacob Beboy Abraham Deboy Caty, Catherine Inchminger/Ensminger, Wife of Anthony Elizabeth Deboy- His wife John Deboy was appointed guardian of Christian's children. The first record of this is dated 19 April 1808. It appears this was done so that he could buy land for Christain's heirs . On this date he bought land from Henry Magnett. Recorded in Monroe County Deed Book B-490-491-492. Age of Children: Elizabeth 10, Catherine 9 and Julie ?. Christain's heirs sold this land on 15 August 1820, Deed Book G-257. John did not mention Christain's children in his will. Could he have been disappointed that they sold their property? It bordered his land. Children of JOHN DEBOY and ELIZABETH ? are: 2. i. CHRISTAIN ( CHRISTLEY)2 DEBOY, b. Bet. 1765 - 1776, Monroe County, VA; d. November 1801, Monroe County, VA. 3. ii. CONRAD DEBOY, b. 1776, Monroe County, VA; d. 3. Janni: I have a Jacob Dubois listed as a possible son of John Dubois and his wife Elizabeth but I don't have any information about him, not even who he married. Do you have any dates for Jacob? I also had the Sarah Dubois who married John Keller listed as a possible daughter of John Dubois and Elizabeth. If this Sarah was instead a daughter of Jacob then Jacob was probably not a son of John and Elizabeth (Sarah was married in 1811, probably born 1790 +/-, meaning Jacob "her father" was probably born 1770 +/-). I have often found the Dubois family listed as Deboy, especially in the Monroe County area. Arley Janni Hill wrote: > Marilee & Arley: > > I am interested in your Julia Dubois. 3. Marilee: No, so far I have been unable to find who his parents were. There was an Abraham Cox who immigrated to Monroe County from Monongalia County at about the time that John D. Cox shows up there. I suspect that there is a connection between these two but whether or not this Abraham was John's father - ?? - I really don't know. I have had very little luck in tracking down this line. (I am descended from John D. Cox, Jr. and Leanna Wheeler) Arley Marilee Jolliff wrote: > Arley, > I think I remember you are descended from my John D. 1. Re: [WVSUMMER] HOBBS 1880-after 1920 - Was "Is this list alive?"
    2. Alison K Douglas
    3. My goodness - this list is not only alive but kicking! My family of interest centers around one Henry HOBBS, and I'm particularly interested in finding out when and where he died, if he's buried in Hinton's Hill Top Cemetery with his wife; and whether his father, John HOBBS died in Summers Co. as well.. Henry was the son of John HOBBS (1825-about 1901) and Malinda _____ (Mayhew) HOBBS (1823-1905). Malinda was my 3rd great grandmother, and Henry was my 2nd g-grandmother's younger half-brother. Henry was born in 1849 in Indiana and spent most of his younger life in Louisville, KY. The family appears to have moved a few times during that period, but Henry is found in Louisville City Directories from 1865-1881, working as a moulder for various foundries. He married Adele MILLER in Louisville in 1870; they had two children, Emma (b. 1872) and Arthur (b. 1874). Addie Miller Hobbs died in late 1874. Sometime between 1875 and 1878 or so,somewhere apparently neither in Louisville nor in Summers Co., Henry then married Mary R. PHILLIPS (1851-1903); who was the widow of James BURDETTE. Mary had only one child, a daughter, by James Burdette - Nora E. BURDETTE (1870-?). Henry and Mary had the following children: Sallie E. (b. 1879) married Lee R. CLOUGH - living in Manhattan, NY by 1903 Charles (b. 1881) William C. (b. 1884) married Minnie BOLEY John R. (b. 1886) married May _____ Harvey T. (b. 1888) Thomas E. (b. 1890) married Grace C. ______ Henrietta (b. 1892) Additionally: Mary's daughter by her first husband, Nora E. BURDETTE married Charles A. HOOVER Emma HOBBS (by Henry's first marriage) married Marshall MURRELL in 1891 Arthur HOBBS " was living in Bluefield as late as 1904. Henry HOBBS and his family were enumerated in Hinton in 1880, but he also apparently owned part of a foundry in Louisville between 1881-1884, when he disappears from the Louisville City Directories. At that time, I suspect he moved to West Virginia for good. In 1900, Henry and family - as well as his parents, John and Malinda Hobbs were enumerated in Hinton, and in 1910 Henry was found in Avis. Mary R. Phillips (Burdette) HOBBS died in 1903 and there apparently was a news story to that effect in the Hinton Daily News (as extracted by Pauline Haga). Malinda _____ (Mayhew) HOBBS died back in Louisville in 1905. There was a brief obit for her in the Hinton Daily News, as well as a story in the Louisville Courier-Journal.. I suspect that John HOBBS may have died in Hinton between July 1900 (when he was enumerated living with his wife there) and June 1902 (when Pauline Haga's extracts of the Hinton Daily News began). Henry HOBBS was alive and well and living with a daughter in 1910. I have not found him in any Census after 1910, so I suspect he died between 1910 and 1920. My questions are: 1) The obvious one - is anyone researching the Hobbs family in Summers Co.? Are there any descendants? 2) Is there any way to find out anything about deaths in Summers Co. prior to 1902 or after 1906? 3) Is the Hinton Daily News available on microfilm? Can somebody make copies? I'd like to have the complete story about Mary Hobbs' death, not just an abstract. 4) Has anyone published anything about Hill Top Cemetery? I'd love to know who all is buried with Mary Hobbs. 5) What other Summers Co. resources are available? I've already looked at the FHL films for Summers Co. Births Vols A & B, 1 & 2; Death records Vols. A, 1 & 2; Marriage records Vol 1 & 2. I've also looked at the 1902-1906 Hinton Daily News extracts done by Pauline Haga. Have I missed anything else? Thank you all for your time. I've got high hopes for a list this active! Alison Douglas cindy g wrote: > Hi Alison! > Yes, we're out here but there really isn't much traffic on this site. 2. Hi, haven't talked to you for a while. No this is not my Winnie. She was born to Isaac James Lilly and Susan Barker Stovall. She was born on 15 November 1886 in Raleigh County, WV. She died in May 1967 in Hinton, Summers County, West Virginia. She is buried in Summers County, West Virginia. She was married to Emanual W. Frey "Manuel" son of John D. Frey and Elizabeth Troyer . Emanuel was born on 18 Dec 1882 in German, homes County, Ohio. He died I think in Sep 1930 in Hinton, Summers County, West Virginia and is buried in Frey Family Cemetery in Ohio. I haven't checked his death date since I found the Sep 1930 date to see if a death Certificate is there. When I was searching I was checking in the Mid-30's date. Because she thought that he died than but she was a young kid than. She is now 83 and memory is not as good. If anyone can help me with this. I would appreciate it. He died in the middle of the night. According to mom, he was so full of beer, etc. over the years that according to her they couldn't do anything with him. He was pickled from the drink. But apparently he want to go to Ohio to be buried in the Family Plot. So grandda had to paid money under the table to take him across the lines to Ohio and put him in the Frey Cemetery in Ohio. Has anyone heard anything on this? Sandy Cocoa, Florida

    3. John Cox, Sr. did not marry Elizabeth Buckland, daughter of Stephenson Buckland and Melinda Meadows. In the 1870 census John Cox, Sr., at family #136, is living with an Elizabeth C. who is 21 years old (making her year of birth about 1849). At the same time, at family #130, is Elizabeth Lucas (born 1814), the widow of James Madison Lucas. This Elizabeth Lucas was originally Elizabeth Buckland, daughter of Stephenson Buckland and Melinda Meadows. John D. Cox, Jr. (1822-1900) married (about 1846) Leanna Wheeler (1830-1878), daughter of Robert Wheeler and Miriam Paine. He married 2nd (before 1880) Susan Adkins, a widow (I haven't proven it yet but I believe that her maiden name was Plumley and that her first husband was Josiah Adkins).
