WOW! I have an original copy of Mr.Miller's book signed by him. Never thought it would be worth a lot of money. It was purchased by a family member way back when for another family member as a gift. ( Anderson ) Shirley
Check with Ebay, I have gotten a lot of my books from there. A lot cheaper. Sightly used but ok. They had a lot on CD as well. Which book are you looking for. I have one of his books, maybe I can loan it to you to look at. Miller has a good four pages of THE COOK FAMILY starting 1779 in Germany with Daniel & Rosanna Wilhoit. He later ties Annie Cook b. 1797 to Andrew Farley. Last date that jumps out is a death in 1884. He mentions Drewry Farley and the Cooks also. Sanders in his books A New River Heritage covers a lot these same people as well and has a photo of the Drewry Farley tombstone also. I am not familiar with exactly what HOPKINS 10 pages that you have covered so I can not say if it is the same BUT I find James Millers work quoted a lot in other books, including Sanders. ----- Original Message ----- From: "Wade Halsey" <[email protected]> To: <[email protected]> Sent: Tuesday, August 22, 2006 1:44 PM Subject: Re: [WVSUMMER] Geneological History of the Hopkins-Farley-Cook-Keaton-Brown Families > Vernon and Betty wrote: >> I don't know what pages or information you are inquiring about but I >> recently came across a lot of FARLEY COOK family info etc in the book >> CLAY FAMILY SETTLEMENT on the Bluestone River by Wm Sanders and his books >> are available thru his Princeton office or at the gift shop/bookstore in >> Pipestem, WV.. The only trouble with Miller, is that some of his information is not correct. He takes what is said by people as truth and it isn't. So what you get from his books you need to double check. But it would be a good starting point, just check the information out. PERHAPS he was injured and died being transported back to Va. They would not have recorded it as a death in Hinton but some where along the way. Thanks to all of you who furnished information about my g-grandmother, Martha Ann Cook and her ancestors. Based on the information about her father and grandfather that I learned on this site, I have now traced her Cook ancestors six generations back to Mikel Koch in Germany during the 1600's. I am extremely grateful to finally have this information. Thanks again, Wade Halsey

Not sure if this helps whoever is researching Cooks from Pipestem but in the 1996 SUMMERS COUNTY CEMETERY book they list 66 COOK and 4 COOKE. Four are buried in the ELLISON CEMETERY across from the old Pipestem Post Office on Rt 20. One, a Nancy Cook 1819/1896, is listed in the BUTTERMILK (John) NEELY CEMETERY just north outside of Pipestem State Park also on Rt 20. Neely relatives put up a new marker in the 1990's but I the best I can recall the other two or three stones are not legible. Seven others are listed as being in COOK CEMETERY [River Ridge near Pipestem]. The rest are scattered around the area in various cemeteries. {This would not list female Cooks who were probably buried under their married names as the book is in order by individual names not cemeteries}. As DEAN said they lived between Hinton & Athens some of the family records are probably in (Princeton) Mercer County as well. A family article THE COOK FAMILY starting with Michael Cook 1695 in Germany talks of numerous generations thru children born in the 1970's. A second article is on the family of Fred Clayton & June (Thomas) Cook. Fred was born in Pipestem in 1910. There is COOK genealogy to be found in 'CLAY FAMILY SETTLEMENT on the BLUESTONE RIVER' by William Sanders [index lists 68 Cook's]. Sanders is a local writer with a series of books about the area and its people. His books are generally available thru his law office in Princeton or on the shelf at the giftshop/bookstore near the tram at Pipestem State Park. I remember he name "George Cook" from an earlier msg. {deleted it, sorry}. On Page 126, "George Cook b 1847 m. 12/26/1866, Sarah J. Cook, daughter of John & Rhoda Cook." A family article on THOMAS BOYD COOK 1859/1914 in Mercer County History-1987.
