I am also looking for the Ratliff family as well. Luorica "Leono Onie Moten, the daughter of John Wesley Moten. He was the brother of Samuel Edward Moten which is my grandfather. My father is Carl Thomas Moten. I have some information on the Ratliff family, but the computer I had when down and I lose some of it and the other and trying to restory what I had lose as well as some more current data. Or even some of the earlier data. It has been a battle trying to recreate James history and his relative. I know his father was Thomas and his mother was Isabella. I know that Thomas was born in Virginia and Isabella was born in North Carolina. Which now creates a problem - in some of James records he says he as born in NC and in some he said in Va. The county is constant - he was born in Tazwell County. He was also in the Civil War for the Confederate Army, but the dates sometime vary. He died somewhere between 1910 and 1920. In the 1900 he was with his son Charles and family in Giles County, Va and in the 1910 he was back in West Virginia with his son John Wesley and family in Hinton, West Virginia. There is nothing in the 1930 Census. So I assume he died sometime after the 1920 census. Have not been able to find out where. Also I have not been able to track Lucy, his wife and his son Jesse since the 1880 Census in Mercer County. In the Special Census in the 1890 it only talks of James. In the 1900 and 1910 Census they were not with him.and I have so far not found them. If anyone could help me on that I would appreciate it. Samuel Edward was my grandfather and my father is Carl Thomas Moten. The were born down around my grandfather farm was close where the Ranger House is for for the park down the road that goes down before the bridge that goes aross the where the Little Bluestone join the Bluestone. Can anyone give me any information on them. My uncle used to work on the the Railroad if I remember right. They had a little house build on my grandparent farm was at the Ranger House. The Slab on the property where they keep the wood is where the house was. The farm was finally sold and my grandparents moved to pipestem and my parent Edna Lilly and Carl Moten moved to True and so did Shirley and Robert McComas for a while. That is when true move and so did the post office when the bridge was put in because of the Dam and the town of Lilly when away as well. My grandfather farm was just above the high water line and he was mad because the government wouldn't buy it. So he move to Pipestem and left the farm there. The children sold it after he and grandma died. It eventually sold and after the rebuild house burned down it was given or sold to the park and the park rangers house was build there. Any information will be welcome. Sandy Moten Mother is Arnie Edna Lilly Moten
