He was born in Parkersburg, Wood County, WV, a son of Benny SMITH and Janice COMPTON SMITH of Petroleum, WV. He attended Ritchie County High School, was an employee of Sears, Roebuck and Co., Parkersburg, and a member of the Cairo United Methodist Church. Surviving are two brothers, Jeffery Scott SMITH and Jerry Allen SMITH, both of Petroleum; his fiancee, Lisa BYRD, of Petroleum; paternal grandparents, Ralph "Bud" SMITH and Naomi WOLFE SMITH of Cairo, WV; and maternal grandmother, Thelma COMPTON of Petroleum. Preceding him in death was his maternal grandfather, Jack COMPTON. Services were held at Raiguel Funeral Home, Cairo, with Carlos Nutter officiating. Burial followed in the Cairo I.O.O.F.
