I have requested a list from the RCHS as I am interested in all the names, being a Six descendant. I received a gracious reply but it may take some time to get the list. My main interest is one you may be able to help me with. I am looking for the burial place of LAURA REXROAD CATHELL SIX who died 1925 in Cairo. She was married to DAVID LEWIS SIX who is buried in the Six cemetery. He d 1960. I am also wondering if her daughters from her previous marriage to John CATHELL are buried there also. They would be Daisy CATHELL and Ethel Mae CATHELL(?Rollins). Since Laura was b and died in Cairo and predeceased her husband, its a good possibility she could be buried there. Thanks so much for your prompt reply. Linda

    1. Valentine
    2. Interesting about the family. There could be another explanation. There was a family in Belmont Co where the man had one family by his wife and then he had a younger woman working in the house for his wife. This younger woman was given or using a small house on their property and he also had children by her at the same time he was having women by his legal wife. A lady told me this once when I was in Ohio, but she didn't want to elaborate any more. I think she was quite upset at what she found. Jerilyn I also have seen several instances of where a man would have two families in two different counties and they weren't that far apart, but since women didn't travel much suppose they never found out. One that I remember was a Quaker family.

    2. This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list. Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/an/QEC.2ACE/2241 Message Board Post: You can follow Francis in the census beginning with the 1860 Census for Ritchie Co., Va, he is listed with his mother Sarah Valentine, daughter of Henry Valentine, however, Sarah has two children. Shows her and her sister, Harriett, working in the household of Fredric Lemon and his eight children. 1870 & 1880 shows her with 10 children. Shows Sarah as keeping house for Frederick Lemmon. Sarah doesn't marry Frederick until the 1900 Census show them as husband and wife. He is 87 & she is 59. 1910 Census show her as a widow. The explaination that I can come up with was they possibly were Morman or some other religion and he could only be married to one wife at a time. I found this info as I was looking for a George Valentine and she had one, but he died when he was 18 of diptheria. I did find my George & there is probably some connection some where but I haven't found it yet. Hope this helps. Another thing some of her children changed their names to Lemon but Francis! did not.

    2. David M. Scott
    3. Hi, The Newbrough Cemetery is listed in the Ritchie County Historical Society's book, "Ritchie Co., WV Cemeteries - Through 1993". The location provided in the book states, "South of Girta near Wirt County line." The supplemental map places it nearly due south of Girta. Girta is located on State Rt. 53 just before the road crosses into Wirt County. Rt. 53 turns off Rt 47 between Cisco and Macfarlan. A road turns off at Girta, to the left, and is an access route to the cemetery. I've been told that some people get to the cemetery via the Munday-Elizabeth road. It is a difficult cemetery to find. I have never been there. Frances Frederick, a member of the historical society, located it and provided most of the names listed in the book. She is no longer physically able to hike through the woods but she might be able to tell you where to turn off State Rt 53 and give you some landmarks to look for. Her phone number is 304-477-3595. Let the phone ring several times and you may need to call several times to catch her at home. FYI, there are five Newbroughs and six Smiths listed in the book. Sorry I can't give you any more help than that.
