These people were related to Preston's 2nd wife Catherine Moats & gave the pictures to us. There is a picture labeled "Preston Zinn" , one postcard addressed to Aunt Kate from Olive Zinn, & one of a bearded man with "Readie ??nkle on the back (can't read the first couple letters of last name). There are a couple of others w/ names & then about 20 more with nothing on them. The photographer for some was I.W. Woods of Ritchie Co, WV. The photos all date about 1850 to 1900. I've submitted them to www.deadfred.com under mystery photos. They said it would take about 5 days to post. Please look them up & see if you recognize anyone. They are listed under Ritchie County, WV not by surname. Thanks. Any help in identifying would be appreciated.
All the other lists I subscribe to show the list name in the from section of new mail. Ritchie is the only one that does not. Just wondering why that is. Unless you know the particular name or topic listed, you might delete it as spam. Which could be a reason for some of the problems with AOL putting mail in the spam filter. Janet

This couple is in Battelle Twp, Monongalia County in the 1900 census. Their daughter was born late 1900 after the census. In this census, the # of years married is zero, so they were married in 1899 or 1900. Mary was born in Harrison COunty Ohio about 1877 , daughter of Jeptha BARGAR and Sarah Spiker. He was born in Canada about Dec 1864, son of John WOOD and Mary COLWELL. Harvey was an oil pumper in 1900. He had 2 borthers in law who were oil drillers- James R Grant and RObert Cook. They both moved around quite a bit - Venango, PA to Cattaraugus, NY to Findlay, Hancock Ohio, to Ritchie ,West Virginia. James Grant was in Ritchie by about 1898 and then Harrison Co so I was wondering if Harvey was with them. Mary had a brother in Hancock Co WV so they might have been married there too. I did check the marriage film for Harrison CO Ohioo and they weren't there. I would appreciate it if you would check Monongalia co and Hancock Co for me if you have books for them. I checked Harrison on the state database website. I am not sure where else to check. I appreciate your help. Joanna

Hi, The David Snodgrass farm is depicted on a circa 1915 Ritchie County Farm Map. It is located near the mouth of Meadow Run, not far at all from the former location of the Combs post office (the building is no longer standing). Meadow Run empties into Douglass Run at Combs. The easiest access to this site is via County Road 3 which goes from Old Route 50 (just west of Glendale) north into Pleasants County through Shultz and to State Route 2 at Willow Island. According to the county highway map, it is 7/10 of a mile on County Road 3 to Combs and the intersection with County Road 3/2. You turn right on County Road 3/2 and proceed up Meadow Run. It appears that the Snodgrass farm would be the first farm you come to after you leave the house, buildings and property at the intersection. Most of the Snodgrass farm was on the left side of the road and there is a hollow on that side of the road too. However, according to a 1985 county map, the house (if its still standing) may be on the right side of the road. It looks like its only 2/10 or 3/10 of a mile from the Combs intersection. The Harmony Grove/Hornets Nest cemetery is further up Meadow Run road. I do not know if the old house is still standing but I can check with a friend who lives at the Combs intersection and let you know. I should be able to contact him tomorrow. He should also know if I am referring you to the correct farm. FYI, I think this is the best access route because the Old State Road that goes out the ridge from Route 16 is not paved and may not be in very good condition. Hopefully I'll have an answer for you tomorrow about the old house. I have a 1970 photograph of the old abandoned two-story home and barn. Am interested in the possibility of visiting the place if it is still standing. This farm was not very far from Harmony Grove Cemetery (also called Hornets Nest Cemetery). That cemetery is located on County Road 3/1 -- about five miles west of State Route 16.
