I just have to get into this Bonner/Carr dialogue. My grandmother, Mary C Bonner, b. 15 Sep 1984 Randolph WV, d. 13 Oct 1958 Prescott AZ, was an illegitimate child of James William Bonner, b 15 Mar 1866 WV, d. 30 Sep 1906 Dryfork WV, who was the only child of Christopher Columbus and Mary Ann (Nelson) Bonner of Dryfork. (Randolph Deed Book 127: .. by and between Roscoe, Coy and Otis Bonner and Mary C Bennett, the fourth of five heirs (Dora mentioned another child; 'Nettie Bonner') of the late Polly A Bonner (Mary Ann Nelson) of two parcels conveyed by Howard F Bonner and by Washington Roy and his wife respectively). The 1900 census lists Mary, Otis & Coy living with C C Bonner and further lists separately James married to Sarah E (b. 1877). My mother Dora Evelyn (Bennett) Armentrout, d. of Azora M Bennett, b. 14 Dec 1878 Pendleton WV, d. 22 Jun 1915 Hazelwood NC, and confirmed by her sister Helen (Bennett) Waybright, knew their grandmother to be 'Isabella Carr' of 'Middle Mountain'. After extensive searches of available records, I can assert that NO Isabelle Carr existed at that particular time in ANY records of Randolph or Tucker counties. The exact identification of this 'Isabelle' remains elusive; yet the following information is known to me at this time: 1) There IS an Isabelle White who DID have a child by John Carr, William S Carr, b. 15 Mar 1880 d. 17 Oct 1894 bur Johnson Cem. After the birth of Mary C Bonner 15 Sep 1884, Isabelle DID marry John Carr at her father's home on 5 Apr 1885 at age 18 and had other children Olive Carr b. 27 Jun 1890 d. 30 Aug 1901 bur Johnson Cem, and Milford Carr b. 1892. There is a record of death; Isabella Carr, 23 Mar 1922, Hendricks, age 55-2-13 (age is right), husband not named. It was originally thought that this Isabelle was a daughter of Laban White of Job (foot of Middle Mountain) shown at age 13 on the 1880 census, but was not mentioned in the 1870 census? Dampening this thought is the statement in Elkins Co Paper Vol 50 where E C Wyatt asserts that Isabelle (d. of Laban) married Solon Day and lives near Job. 2) James Bonner DID marry Martha White (parents unknown to me), a possible sister/relative of 'Isabelle'? 3) There is also Isabelle Cunningham, c. of John W & Rebecca Cunningham living alongside Elemuel Bennett (Parents of Azora Bennett) listed in the 1870 Randolph Census. This particular Isabelle (22) m. J W Sponaugle (26) 7 Jan 1887 in Randolph County. In any case, James (of CC Bonner) was a merchant according to Kathy White Olson who 'moved to Lanesville and devoted the rest of his life to running a restaurant'. I can find no record of his death or burial ANYWHERE and look forward to any information which might help me clarify this man's history. Donald Kay Armentrout in Hughesville MD ps: If Jeff Carr of Hambleton can help with this one, I would like to open the matter of 'Uncle George Butcher', probable ggf of my wife Evelyn Sarah Carr, d. of Olie Luther Carr, s. of Noah Willis Carr and Vernie Catherine Elborn/Butcher?
