As you may have seen from some previous posts I am researching the families that lived in the community known as the South Branch in the mid to late 1700s. According to "The History of Hardy County 1786 - 1986" by Richard MacMaster. There were a Few Hornbecks in the area. The first mentioned was Daniel Hornbeck (as listed in a coroner's Jury) with Anthony Bogard, John Westfall and Cornelius Cutright sworn on their report in 1749. who was this Daniel Hornbeck? Next there was a Joel Hornbeck mentioned to be on the 1750 tax roll for Augusta Co. on the South Branch. Does anyone know who he is? I imagine that Elizabeth Hornbeck must have come to the Valley with her Husband Hendrick Cutright. would any of her Brothers come as well as Westfalls, Cutrights and Hornbecks all seem fairly close. And there were Westfalls there too. I imagine that Judith (Judlike) Hornbeck came there with her husband Colonel Jacob Westfall. John and Esther (Hornbeck) Truby may have been there as well. and an unrelated question. Who was Sarah (Vernoy) Hornbeck the daughter of. Sarah's Mother was Sarah Vernoy. and her husband was Johannes Wesley Westfall, (1724-1789) son of Abel Westfall and Anna Bogard. That is enough to get things started. Jay Steffens
