Hi, Does anyone know how to obtain copies of old articles from the WV Hillbilly Newspaper.. or how to contact them or even if they are still around??? Thank You!! Leslie
Hello, I believe the WV Hillbilly is no longer printing - has been a long time since I've seen a copy. As I recall the long-time editor, Jim Comstock, died a few years ago. Insofar as old issues there might be a possibility of these being available. I will check and post later. I think the Archives/Culture Center at Charleston has them on microfilm - won't swear to it but I know I've used them somewhere a few years ago. You will find nothing on them in Richwood anymore - for a while you could get some old copies but no longer - we walked the town this summer asking around. Hi everyone! I found the WV Hillbilly still listed in a site for WV newspapers. However, when I called the number listed, it was disconnected. As was reported by another responder who visited Richwood, WV previously, this newspaper no longer exists. That also confirms my memory of they closing a few years ago. I kept an article on this and if found, will report further findings. I contacted the WV Culture & History Department in the State Capitol Complex in Charleston, WV and here is what they provided: "The WV Division of Culture and History's Archives Library, located here in the Cultural Center, has the WV Hillbilly on microfilm. Your friend will need to come to the library to view the microfilm. I wasn't able to find any current information about the publication, but an Archives librarian will be able to help. There is no fee to view microfilm, nor is an appointment necessary. If your friend would like to talk to someone in the Archives Library directly, s/he can either call 304-558-0220, extension 151 or 168 or email fharmstrong@wvculture.org." Trust this will aid Leslie and others that are searching for this wonderful newspaper that was published by Editor Jim Comstock. Might there be a set at the West Virginia Collection at WVU in the old law building? There was also a book "The Best of Hillbilly". I have it around here someplace. Jean
