Okay, I've delayed this as long as possible. Years, matter of fact, I have successfully ignored my ancestor's sister's line. Now I'm going over this with a distant cousin and we're both helplessly confused. Need some Carr help. (I wish it was just work on my '59 Chevy. It would be so much easier.) John Carr married Jemima Wolford (dau of John Wolford and Elizabeth Woolever) in 1820. John Carr was born 15 Mar 1800, Hardy County. Jemima Wolford was born anywhere between 1800 and 1809, depending on the source and census. I guess she had a lot of bad hair days. Jemima dies somewhere in 1852. I have their children as Joab L, Enos, Christina, Henson, Emily and Malinda. John Carr remarries: I have 2nd wife as Abigail Bright m 4 May 1854 in Randolph County. John Carr dies in 1861. I have 9 children for Abigail and John. I don't think some of them are right though. Thomas, Sarah, Jacob, Seymour, Benjamin, Jesse, Elizabeth, Enos, Mary. John Carr's parents are John Carr and Abigail Unknown. Is this right? There are a lot of sources I used from vital records to county history books to genealogy books. "Bright Cousins" was a book I found in Elkins Library when I was passing through. Early census info isn't very helpful unless you just want to know if the male head of household lived in that county and how many children he had and the vague range of dates. Number of male children between 0-5, number of female children, etc, Randolph count was formed in 1787 so it would have been on the 1790 census also. States also did their OWN census aside from the Federal census. Sometimes states census info is more interesting than Federal. (State census varies from state to state so check each state out for what is available) Good hunting! Hi All, I have a question regarding several grandchildren of Simeon K. Roy & Sidney Pennington. The grandchildren are listed in the 1900 census as follows. 1900 census, Tucker Co., WV, Dry Fork, ED 137, pg 9 (images online, ancestry.com) Roy, Simeon K., head, Mar 1827, 73, married 51 years Roy, Sidney, wife, Oct 1827, 72, married 51 years, 8?/9? children, 4 living + Flanagan, Adus?, gson, May 1885, 15 + Roy, Ira, gson, Jul 1888, 11 + Roy, Calnettie, gdau, Mar 1889, 11 + Roy, Salina O., gdau, May 1893, 7 + Roy, Rac S, gdau, Sep 1896, 3 This is what I have so far regarding the family. Children of Simeon K. Roy & Sidney Pennington: 1. Melvina Roy (1849-after 1920) m. Robert J. Flanagan Listed in 1900 census with 3 ch 2. Adam Roy (1850-1931) m. Margaret Carr Listed in 1900 census with 3 ch + Don Roy boarder age 15 3. Simeon K Roy, Jr. (1851-after 1920) m. Edith Wolford Listed in 1900 census with 4 ch 4. Emory Lee Roy (1853- ?) m. Phebe Roy m. Laverna Angeline Pennington 5. Sidney Roy (1857- ?) Found in 1880 census with brother Emory Lee, not in 1900 census. 6. Elijah Roy (1859-1937) m. Martha Flanagan m. Mary? (had this as Mary Wolford, but now I'm not sure about this one) m. Ursula Wolford Listed in 1900 census widowed with 2 ch 7. Malissa Roy (1865- ?) 8. Laura Roy (1870-1898) I'm using the images online and it's hard to read the writing, so I hope I got that all down right. Please excuse my question marks. To date I haven't been able to determine who the grandchildren belong to, just pretty much who they don't belong to. Logically you would think the Roy grandchildren are children of Emory Lee Roy, since he's the only son not accounted for in the 1900 census, but I'm learning not to make guesses (ha ha). Any help, additional info or corrections are appreciated. Cathy My family tree online at rootsweb: http://worldconnect.rootsweb.com/cgi-bin/igm.cgi?db=:1653063 Surnames: Bonner, Flanagan, Hanger, Hart, Irvine, Roy, Schutterle, Summerfield Dunkle, Ferguson, Scarberry, Thomas Hedrick, Raines, Reed, Wingfield + lots more Locations: Pendleton, Pocahontas, Randolph, Tucker Co., WV Cabell, Kanawha, Mason, Putnam, Wood Co., WV Augusta Co., VA
I posted this list at the request of Jeanne Russell. Jeanne sent me the list by regular mail and I re-typed it. The list is being shared with the permission of Bill Rice. The following is Jeanne's standard ending and I really should have put it at the end of the list, because they would really appreciate contributions for the care of the cemetery! I'm still on the roaad. Do you have any ideaa what your PatrickDivine did besides the usual farming? Do you have any idea of what he did in Ireland? How many siblings? When he came over (approximately)? Do you know if he was the usual Catholic? All these will help me give you ideas of where to start looking. Let me know if you know when/where married and to whom. Actually any thing you know about him will help me help you> Barb ----- Original Message ----- From: "cgreg58" <cgreg58@msn.com> To: <WVRANDOL-L@rootsweb.com> Sent: Monday, April 01, 2002 2:03 AM Subject: Re: [WVRANDOL-L] county sligo Hi Barbara! Any help with this you can give me would be really appreciated. Never done anything overseas so I look forward to learning how to go about it. Patrick Divine/Devaney was born about 1814 in County Sligo according to census records. Would love to find out more about him. Hope to hear from you soon! Got a question... Robert Flanagan married Melvina Roy, 1875, Tucker County, born 1857. I have 16 other Flanagan's in my database from 1800s and 1700s... Does anyone know the parents of Robert?
