Re your query on Martha Ellen {Duck} White. She was the sister of my Grandfather Alfred T. White. We have no info on Dan Ryder. Her first husband was John Kerns.They had seven children. Her second husband was Dan Ryder. We have listed only one child from that marriage-Artie who married George Daniels. I cannot confirm this. I would like to know if you learn anything else. Hi Bonnie; Most of the information that I have came from relatives. I have two cousins who do a lot of research and my daughter. Also most of our info came from the White reunions. We have only our direct family line. If you want anything specific ' I was born and raised in WV, went to school there , grauated from Elkins High School. I still have a lot of family there. If you are going to be in Elkins, try the court house .. or in Tucker county at Parsons courthouse. There are so many White familys. Ours is a work still in progress. Gwen.

Hello to all of you. This is my first time to post on this site. I have been reading and following the Thomas Soldier White family responses, I find the bits and pieces very interesting. I am interested in Martha (Duck) White's family also, she was my greatgrandmother with her marriage to Daniel Rider. Bonnie: Thomas "Allegheny" White was a brother to David White. Thomas "Allegheny"White married Mary Ann Raines. Thomas Soldier White was David's son. Thanks for the information. I don't suppose we will ever know for sure if Soldier was also married to Mary Raines. Maybe if I keep digging into the records, I'll find proof either way. I hope to go to Randolph and Pendleton counties later this summer to get some first-hand information. I've been to the Randolph Co. courthouse, but it was years ago. As for children not having fathers name if born before the marriage this Thomas and Mary have a son Allen White born 1818 they were married 1821 if it is Mary Raines. I don't understand it either.

I have seen the name Thomas Allegheny White before but have never seen any proof that he was the Thomas White who married Mary Rains. The marriage record is simply Thomas White. How do you account for the fact that Levi White was born 2 years before Soldier White married Lucy? Illegitimate children at that time were not given their father's last name. Just curious, Bonnie
